The Palma City Council has approved a motion from the PSOE (Spanish Socialist Workers' Party) to commission a technical feasibility study for burying the ring road. The initiative passed with the support of all municipal groups except Vox, which voted against it, and echoes a proposal already approved a few weeks ago by the Consell de Mallorca (Island Council of Mallorca).

The Socialists emphasized that "burying the road would allow the freed-up area to be transformed into a large green corridor with public spaces, facilities, and routes for pedestrians and cyclists." To carry out this project, Ferrer called for institutional cooperation and state and European funding. The approval of the motion by the island council initiates the process for commissioning the preliminary study. Furthermore, the initiative will also be debated in the Palma City Council plenary session at the end of the month. The study will have to analyze the technical, urban planning, environmental, and economic aspects of the project, as well as the proposed implementation phases. Alonso stated that the ring road is "a scar on Palma" that has generated inequalities and argued that burying it would allow for the "stitching up" of historically disconnected neighborhoods and advance social cohesion. She also criticized the PP's policies for prioritizing vehicular traffic. The motion proposes a first phase focused on the most vulnerable neighborhoods and envisions collaboration and co-financing from the Palma City Council, the Government of Palma, and the national government, in addition to European funds.

The motorcyclist who was seriously injured in an accident on Palma's ring road this Monday morning remains in critical condition in the intensive care unit of Son Espases Hospital. According to information from the SAMU (National Health Service), the accident occurred at around 5:40 a.m. and the victim collided with another vehicle and was ejected.
