The Palma City Council has confirmed that people are sleeping in the old Son Busquets barracks and has asked the state housing entity Casa 47–formerly Sepes– to act to guarantee the security of the premises and restore adequate conditions of control and protection, and to avoid a situation similar to that registered in the old prison.

The former Son Busquets barracks has become one of the protagonists of Open House Palma 2025The festival, which has opened some sixty buildings for its fifth edition, has generated particular interest in the site, which until decades ago was linked to the Artillery. The organizers explained that the site is undergoing a profound urban transformation, which will position it as one of Palma's most ambitious regeneration projects.

The Balearic National and International Real Estate Association (ABINI) described this Monday as a "scandal" and expressed its "deep concern and indignation" because the Management Company for Assets from Bank Restructuring, Sareb, is keeping 50 plots of land in the Balearic Islands blocked, with the capacity to build 583 homes.
