Cloudy and overcast skies are expected on Tuesday, with some locally heavy showers in the western part of the archipelago starting in the morning. These showers could be locally heavy in the Pitiusas Islands (Ibiza and Formentera). Temperatures will remain fairly stable. Winds will be light from the south, shifting to an easterly component in the morning. Parts of the islands were under a yellow weather warning for accumulated rainfall of 20 mm in one hour this Monday. Specifically, the alert was activated in the north and northeast of Mallorca and in Menorca.

In Mallorca, the average temperature was 19.4 °C, almost a degree above normal, and up to 11 tropical nights were recorded in Capdepera, more than usual. Despite the persistent heat, the month was normal in terms of rainfall, with an average of 71 liters per square meter, 10% less than expected. The strongest storms arrived with the DANA (isolated high-altitude depression) Alice and Storm Benjamin, which brought torrential rain to the north of the island and wind gusts of over 100 km/h in the Sierra de Alfabia mountain range.

These past few days marked the one-year anniversary of the deadly storm in Valencia. In the days and weeks that followed, many people from all walks of life from the Balearic Islands joined together to lend a hand to so many who had lost everything, in a truly commendable act of solidarity. This year should serve as a lesson, given that extreme weather events linked to climate change are and will continue to be increasingly intense and virulent, as we witnessed in Sant Llorenç in October 2019 and in Ibiza a few weeks ago.

Alfredo Barón, former head of the Government's Water Resources Studies and Planning Service and an authority on the subject, has been saying this for years. His judgment was directed at the public authorities, who for decades allowed construction in areas considered prone to flooding, even long after the studies and initial regulations began to come into effect. Last week, the force of nature struck Ibiza again, and luckily, only material damage was reported. The most significant lesson from this episode can be learned by superimposing the flooded area with the flood zone maps (see main photographs): they are a carbon copy.

And what if, as the Popular Party maintains, the participation of the head of the Consell was not crucial, because he spoke by phone with the former Minister of Justice and the Interior, Salomé Pradas, a minute before her. dictate the content of the message And one before spreading it? These are two of the main questions that Judge Nuria Ruiz Tobarra's investigation has been unable to answer eight months after the catastrophe that devastated much of the center of the Valencian Community and resulted in the deaths of 228 people. Among the questions the investigation has been able to answer are whether the Generalitat (Catalan government) had ignored warnings warning of an extremely dangerous cold snap and that its response was always late and insufficient.
