The Tramuntana mountain range woke up this Sunday with a fully wintry scene that breaks with the spring-like atmosphere of recent weeks. During the early morning, snow made an appearance in the highest areas of Mallorca, coinciding with a notable drop in temperature and the arrival of an unstable weather episode.

Palma City Council reopened the seafront promenade and the municipal parks of Bellver, La Ribera, and Can Terrers this Sunday, after they were closed as a precaution due to the strong winds recorded in recent hours. The measure was taken after the local emergency plan, PLATERBAL, was deactivated. The closures were carried out following safety protocols for weather-related emergencies, with the aim of ensuring public safety. During the storm, there were some isolated incidents, such as a palm tree falling on the seafront promenade near Es Baluard, which landed on the road and has already been removed by municipal services. The City Council confirmed that, after inspecting the affected areas, access to the parks has been restored to normal.

Recent storms have washed away almost all the sand from the most popular beaches on Menorca's south coast. The force of the wind and the pounding waves have completely devastated the beaches of Binigaus, Sant Tomàs, and Sant Adeodat, in the municipality of Migjorn Gran, as well as the first stretch of Son Bou (Alaior), the island's longest beach. In the case of Son Bou, the remaining almost two and a half kilometers of coastline are now reduced to just a third of their original dune system. This significant reduction in sand has sparked concern among the affected municipalities just over two months before the official start of the tourist season.

The storm with strong winds and thunderstorms in the last few hours has resulted in a total of 83 incidents, mostly in Ibiza. Specifically, according to information provided by the Ministry of the Presidency, the 112 emergency coordination center handled 53 incidents in Ibiza and 30 in Mallorca between 6:00 PM on Sunday and 6:00 AM on Monday.

The Balearic Government has cleaned more than 310 kilometers of torrents in the Balearic Islands in the last two years to combat flooding caused by phenomena such as floods, which, according to the president, Marga Prohens, will be "increasingly frequent and more intense." Prohens explained these figures during her visit to the Avenc torrent in Campos, where cleaning and maintenance work is currently underway. Of the kilometers cleaned, 253 were in Mallorca; 25 in Menorca, including interventions resulting from last year's flood; and 37 in Ibiza. In the first half of this year alone, work has been carried out on more than 50 kilometers.
