The Minister of Youth and Childhood, Sira Rego, has visited the Naüm Foundation with the aim of learning firsthand about the protection and good treatment policy promoted by the entity, within the framework of the deployment of the Organic Law for the Comprehensive Protection of Children and Adolescents (LOPIVI). During the visit, the minister was able to get closer to the work that the foundation carries out in matters of guaranteeing rights, preventing violence, and promoting the well-being of children, adolescents, and young people in situations of special vulnerability.

The Regional Minister for Families, Social Welfare, and Dependency Care, Sandra Fernández, sent a letter this Monday to the Minister of Youth and Children, Sira Rego, requesting that she halt the transfer of unaccompanied migrant minors arriving in the Canary Islands. In the note, Fernández reminded her that the childcare services of the island councils are caring for 682 unaccompanied migrant minors, four times more than in 2022, and that this increase and the resulting overcrowding of 1,000% in these services directly impacts the quality of services.

The Minister of Youth and Children, Sira Rego, has criticized the Balearic Government for its intention to request precautionary measures to stop the distribution of migrant minors, which is expected to begin next week, and considered that their refusal to accept them is not due to a "lack of resources" but to "racism."
