As happened last year around this same time, the rise in temperatures and the increasingly direct incidence of the sun, are causing the problems at the Son Boga early childhood education school in Manacor to once again worry the children's families and the educational community.

Fifth and sixth grade students at CEIP Es Vivero presented a rap song, written by themselves, about equality and the fight for women's rights. This initiative took place during a rap workshop led by rapper Rafel Swing at the school over the past few weeks. It is also part of the awareness-raising activities promoting equality and preventing gender-based violence in schools, coinciding with International Women's Day (25-N) and International Women's Day (8-M).

The National Police have arrested a man in Ibiza accused of attempting to kidnap a minor as she left a social services center. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon when the suspect approached the young girl on the street and invited her to his vehicle with the promise of candy. When the girl refused and tried to run away, the man grabbed her forearm, insisting that she go with him and not tell anyone, according to the Balearic Islands Police Headquarters. The girl managed to break free and take refuge inside a supermarket, where she asked for help from other shoppers. Some locals who were shopping, upon learning what had happened, went out to look for the suspect. Although the man tried to flee and a struggle ensued, the shoppers ultimately managed to detain him until the police arrived. Shortly after, the National Police arrived at the scene, provided assistance to the minor, and located her mother to ensure her safety. The man, a Spanish national, was arrested as the suspected perpetrator of unlawful detention. Subsequently, the judicial authority issued him a restraining order prohibiting him from contacting the victim.

There are moments in the day that define a town or city. In the mornings, when thousands of children and teenagers fill the streets on their way to school, they offer the truest reflection of our urban and educational model. Because school is not just a building: it is community, neighborhood, and equal opportunity. Now, the Regional Ministry of Education, controlled by the People's Party (PP) and supported by Vox, wants to dismantle this fundamental pillar of our society with a shocking lack of justification and recklessness. The proposal for a single school zone is not simply an administrative matter, but a direct threat to the true equity of the system.

When Pere Carrió (Palma, 1946) speaks about education, he doesn't do so from theory or history books, but from lived experience. His trajectory—first as a student during the Franco regime; then as a teacher during the years of the Transition and democracy; and later as an inspector and president of the Balearic Islands School Council—allows us to follow, almost firsthand, the evolution of the Spanish education system from the dictatorship to the present day.

During this month, we must make one of the key decisions as parents: choosing the school where our sons and daughters will spend at least nine years, if they start in the first year of primary school (I3) and it's a public school. If they begin the first year of secondary school or high school (Bachillerato), their time there won't be as long, but it will be equally significant. During childhood and adolescence, children not only acquire knowledge and skills, but also values ​​and lessons that will help them become self-reliant in the not-too-distant future. Doing so in a school with a cohesive educational project and a management and teaching team committed to their work and to educational quality is fundamental to ensuring a successful transition from childhood to adulthood in every sense.

The catastrophe of San Lorenzo The disaster that occurred eight years ago "could have happened again" because "the works that should mitigate and minimize its impact are still pending," according to Sara Lobato, dean of the Balearic Islands College of Civil Engineers. In the mid-1980s, the Sant Antoni festival in Manacor was going through a period of uncertainty. The tradition was seen as a ritual deeply rooted in the peasantry but, at the same time, distant from the youth, who didn't find the connection they have now, 40 years later. The group of devils visited every school, every playground in the town, in search of new members for a shared future, in order to ensure a generational handover that was proving difficult.

In just over half a century, society has undergone profound transformations that have radically altered the main agents of socialization. The family, the street, the world of work, and the media no longer play the same role they did decades ago. This change cannot be interpreted through the lens of nostalgia for an idealized past, often imbued with a conservative and even authoritarian morality, as has also been the case in our own society. Many of the social changes of the last century, both in Europe and in Spain and the Balearic Islands, have been clearly liberating and humanizing.

In Magaluf, surrounded by apartments, tourist bars, and hotels, students who live there could go their entire lives without ever recognizing Galatzó, the Tramuntana mountain range, or the history hidden behind Palma's old streets. This is the reality for many children in the Balearic Islands: they live confined to their neighborhoods, unaware of the island's culture and heritage, and depend on school to show them the world around them. "Many never venture beyond Portopí," summarizes Marilena Suau, the principal of CEIP Cas Saboners. The school tries to mitigate this inequality, but it can't always succeed. Students need to experience the culture: participate in festivals, attend events, go on excursions... This is much more effective than theory," she argues. The teachers at Antoni Maura organize scavenger hunts through Palma's Gothic Quarter, outings, and activities that, more than teaching facts, aim to awaken a sense of belonging and curiosity in a school with a high percentage of foreign students.

The Sencelles Town Council has conducted a survey of families at the local school, revealing that more than half of the children now walk or cycle to school. Despite this progress towards healthier and more sustainable mobility, many families still use cars for various reasons. Notably, 61% of those surveyed believe the journey is dangerous due to the presence of other cars. This is a curious statistic, as the data shows that 61% of respondents perceive the journey as dangerous, and this is the main reason for choosing a private vehicle. It seems to be a vicious cycle. They opt for the car because it is dangerous due to the high volume of traffic. The number of students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) enrolled in public and private schools in the Balearic Islands has increased by 445% in less than a decade, a situation that has forced teachers to improve learning processes and teach "at breakneck speed" to adapt to new realities. This is one of the main conclusions of the study. Educational characteristics of students with ASD, included in the Yearbook of Education of the Islands, presented this Thursday and prepared by the Educational and Social Research and Training Group (GIFES) of the UIB, with the support of the Guillem Cifre de Colonya Foundation.

The courtyard of the former doll school—which, in fact, was originally a boys' school, as men were given priority in education at the time—is today the Maria Cultural Center. This building, inaugurated in September 1928, was part of the educational center designed by one of the most prominent architects in our recent history: Guillem Forteza Pinya. The Ministry of Education's response to the controversy at Son Sardina over the presence of Miquel Roldán has been to send a new teacher to take over the sixth grade tutoring role and assign Roldán support duties for the third cycle (fifth and sixth grades), always accompanied by the respective tutors for that year.
