He hadn't slept because he had spent the night writing down exactly what he wanted to explain about his story. He needed to have the puzzle pieces in order. He notified the minors' center that he was turning 18. No one heeded his warning, and when the Police certified his birth certificate, they threw him out on the street. The system rejected him, and he lost any opportunity to access the public resources network. His case is not unique. According to his account, and as third-sector workers have confirmed, a friend of his ended up begging, overcome by tears and fear, at the door of a charitable organization to let him sleep under a roof. They made a place for him that they didn't have.

"We have seen, tested, and proven that the important thing is to prevent the boats from reaching our country. We believe this would be a much more useful task and would allow us to attack the problem at its root," she stated. Calvo made this statement during her visit to the Civil Guard's oceanographic vessel. Duke of Ahumada, anchored at the Portopí naval station, and which, among its key functions, includes controlling irregular immigration and combating human trafficking organizations. Calvo explained that "operational capacity at the source of the crisis has a lot to do with the 40% decrease in migratory flows in Spain in the last three years," although she also mentioned the "strong and constant" migratory pressure on the Balearic Islands.

I write this while my cheeks are still flushed and hot from the embarrassment we citizens have had to endure in recent weeks, while political parties have played tennis with migrant minors. The grand proclamations of human rights and dignity have become somewhat emptier after being used by institutional representatives who cannot hide the fact that the last thing they care about is the well-being of these people, who need shelter, solidarity, and help. It's hard to hear people talk about human rights without understanding their profound implications, which go far beyond excuses that offend our intelligence, no matter how little intelligence we have left as a society.
