The third day of the new week of doctors' strikes in the Balearic Islands has forced the cancellation of a total of 3,863 appointments, diagnostic tests, and surgeries across the archipelago, according to provisional data released Wednesday by the Balearic Islands Health Service (Ib-Salut). Mallorca is the most affected island, with 3,249 medical procedures canceled. The majority of the cancellations occurred in primary care, with 2,180 appointments postponed. Regarding outpatient consultations and diagnostic tests, 1,615 appointments were canceled, while 68 surgeries were suspended.

National Police officers have arrested a man as the suspected perpetrator of a crime against public health, after finding him in Palma with approximately 200 doses of an epilepsy medication for which he did not have a prescription. Police reported that a patrol from the Citizen Assistance Group, which was carrying out crime prevention duties in Son Gotleu on Wednesday, noticed a group of four men in an area of this neighborhood known as a drug dealing hotspot. The men attempted to leave the area. Upon observing the men's reaction, the officers got out of their vehicle, identified them, and searched them for drugs. During the identification and search of one of the men, officers found 14 blister packs, held together with a hair tie, hidden among his belongings. The packs contained approximately 200 pills of a medication. The officers questioned the man to determine the origin and intended use of the pills. However, the man offered no explanation, only stating that they were headache medication. After the National Police officers carried out the necessary checks on the seized medication, they learned that it could only be obtained with a prescription for the treatment of various illnesses, such as epilepsy, and confiscated the pills. Finally, the officers arrested the man as the suspected perpetrator of a crime against public health and took him to the police station.

The University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) has consolidated its strong position in the ranking of universities offering medical studies following the results of the latest Medical Residency Exam (MIR), the test that grants access to a residency position. Graduates achieved an 85.2% employability rate, the sixth highest among Spanish universities in terms of the percentage of applicants who, after taking the exam, ultimately choose a residency position. National employability rates range from 89.6% to 54.1%. Regarding academic performance, if universities are ranked according to the student's position relative to the average grade at each institution (the indicator known as the 50th percentile or p50), the UIB ranks seventeenth, within the upper range of the 42 universities from which the applicants came. According to this indicator, which reflects the MIR score or the ranking obtained by the average student among the 13,711 applicants, the UIB has a p50 score of 4,325. For reference, the best university has a p50 score of 2,300 and the worst, 7,175. This indicator is considered relevant because it shows the overall performance of a university and the typical ranking of its students.
