      <title><![CDATA[Boost to oncology and mental health research in the Balearic Islands: IdISBa receives 1 million euros for research]]></title>

      <description><![CDATA[<p><img src="https://static1.ara.cat/clip/474511da-c6dc-48ce-9ece-31bb38e6b546_16-9-aspect-ratio_default_0.jpg" /></p><p>The Balearic Islands Health Research Institute (IdISBa) has secured €1,042,775 in the 2025 call for proposals from the Carlos III Health Institute's Strategic Action in Health program, one of the main competitive funding lines for biomedical research in Spain. According to a statement from the Balearic Government, this financial boost strengthens the islands' research capacity and consolidates IdISBa's presence in high-impact scientific projects. Within the framework of the State Program for Research and Experimental Development, the institute is participating in nine health R&D&I projects, with total funding of €827,875. The research focuses on strategic areas such as translational oncology, antibiotic resistance and bacterial infections, vascular and metabolic diseases, highly prevalent mental disorders, as well as community nutrition and cardiovascular epidemiology. The projects benefit from the collaboration of groups from IdISBa, the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), Son Llàtzer University Hospital, and Primary Care. Furthermore, within the State Human Resources Program, IdISBa has received €214,900 earmarked for the training and retention of research talent. This funding includes an i-PFIS contract, a Sara Borrell contract for young postdoctoral researchers, and an intensification contract to enable healthcare professionals to dedicate more time to research. </p>]]></description>

A discovery that opens the door to better diagnosis of the disease. The international team led by Dr. Diego Marzese has discovered genetic changes in little-explored areas of human DNA that could help explain why glioblastoma, the most aggressive brain tumor, is so difficult to treat, the Regional Ministry of Health explained in a statement.</p>]]></description>
