Simplification, a drop in the bureaucratic sea

Administrative simplification is not noticeable. At least, not enough. Companies, farmers, and self-employed workers start from a system that is so cumbersome, with so many accumulated procedures, administrations that do not always share information, and procedures that are duplicated, that the measures promoted in recent years by the Government are, for a good part of the sectors consulted, a drop of water dissolved in a bureaucratic sea built over 40 years. They do not deny that steps have been taken. What they question is whether they have managed to substantially change the daily relationship between the administered and the Administration.

The GOB calls on city councils to make public regulations on rural land

The GOB has asked the Balearic town councils this Thursday to report on how many constructions on rural land have been legalized through the positive administrative silence mechanism, after the Government eliminated this route with the new Law on urgent measures for strategic projects.

The Consell de Mallorca (PP and Vox), presided over by the unflappable Llorenç Galmés, has presented its draft bill for the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range, based entirely on the concept of 'administrative simplification'. 'Administrative simplification' is the idea most frequently championed by the two coalition partners, the PP and Vox, and they have pushed through a significant amount of legislation around it: first, the Simplification Decree; then, the law of the same name with its urban planning amnesty (and the green light for building in flood-prone areas); followed by the Sánchez-era housing law. These are the flagship laws of this legislative term, always guided, of course, by the spirit of administrative simplification.

Simplify Administration, yes, but for whom?

Simplifying the administration not only sounds good, it's essential. In nearly five decades of democracy, a regulatory mess has emerged that is as overwhelming as it is desperate. Just look at how processing a grant requires an absurd amount of documentation, including some certificates issued by the very administration that requests them.
