The resolution annuls the call made in 2019 by the manager of Primary Care of Mallorca to fill a position of director of a basic health area (ZBS). The affected nurse had been managing the center for six years with the consensus of the entire healthcare team at the center, including the doctors, who considered her the most suitable person. Authorized health sources do not understand the logical reasoning that a nurse cannot direct a health center, but can manage a hospital, as is the case, for example, with Son Llàtzer Hospital.

Simebal highlighted the "massive" participation of Resident Physicians (MIRs) in strategic hospital services, such as anesthesiology, with "very high" figures, such as the 95 percent participation rate at Son Espases University Hospital. In addition, numerous outpatient services have been affected, causing a "significant impact on healthcare" in the Balearic Islands. At a press conference at the Official College of Nurses of the Balearic Islands (COIBA), the organization's president, Joan de Pedro, indicated that the management of healthcare services and issues such as working hours and salaries are the responsibility of the regional government. In this regard, he argued that the Framework Statute is "a step in the right direction" and warned that "refusing it is tantamount to allowing delays and problems that affect people's rights to continue accumulating." According to De Pedro, transforming the system requires improving working conditions, reorganizing doctors' schedules to allow them to cover more hours without jeopardizing their labor rights, and committing to full-time dedication to public healthcare.

According to the Balearic Islands Health Service (IB-Salut), "isolated incidents" were reported in the medication delivery process throughout Monday morning. However, the platform is operating normally in health centers and hospitals for issuing prescriptions, but is experiencing difficulties when users try to pick up their medications at pharmacies. Sources at IB-Salut assure that technical teams are working to restore the service as quickly as possible and have expressed their regret for any inconvenience this situation may cause to both healthcare professionals and patients. In response to this situation, the Official College of Pharmacists of the Balearic Islands (Cofib) explained that the system had to be temporarily shut down for two hours to try to correct the detected errors.

On this first day, more than 3,000 appointments and tests were canceled, along with a total of 77 surgeries in the Balearic Islands. According to provisional data from the Balearic Islands Health Service (IB-Salut), the strike resulted in the cancellation of 2,162 primary care appointments and 77 surgical procedures. Regarding outpatient activity, 1,835 appointments were not performed, in addition to various diagnostic and radiological tests. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health, which is responsible for healthcare and has access to data on which professionals have participated in the protest, has declined to provide participation figures and refers inquiries to the Simebal union. "In recent strikes, we haven't provided participation data. We only report on the activity suspended due to the strike," sources at IB-Salut (the Balearic Islands Health Service) stated. According to Simebal, the first day of the nationwide doctors' strike saw high participation in the Balearic Islands, with 90% of hospital staff and 70% of primary care professionals joining, maintaining reinforced minimum services. Union sources indicate these figures are similar to those recorded in the rest of Spain. Young doctors have been particularly active in the protest, with participation reaching 95% in strategic services such as Anesthesia, which has had a direct impact on surgical procedures. Sources from Simebal-CESM, the doctors' union that called the strike in the Balearic Islands, wanted to send a direct message to patients: "Patients must be able to trust us. This strike is to guarantee the safety of both doctors and patients." The organization apologized for any inconvenience the mobilization might cause and noted that a protest of this magnitude had not been held since 1995.

According to the organization's president, Carles Recasens, the initiative arose from complaints that doctors working in the private sector have been making for a long time regarding the conditions and treatment they receive from insurance companies. In the Balearic Islands, there are approximately 3,000 doctors working in private healthcare, a figure that represents nearly 50% of the medical community. The survey conducted by COMIB was answered by 236 members. Of these, only 9 practice exclusively in the public healthcare system; 111 offer mixed care—public and private—and 111 work solely in the private sector. The results paint a clear picture: 123 of those surveyed believe that the private healthcare system is not sustainable under the current conditions. 90% say that insurance companies do not promote quality of care; 87% rate the applied rates as bad or very bad; 85% denounce the negative impact of the model low cost77.9% reported being dissatisfied or very dissatisfied with the situation. None of the participants rated the doctor-insurer relationship as sufficient.

"We don't want to continue being mistreated." This was announced Wednesday by the president of the Balearic Islands Doctors' Union (Simebal), Miguel Lázaro, who explained that the strike's methodology will be announced after negotiations with the Madrid unions. He specified that the strike will take place if the Spanish Minister of Health does not contact the unions before February. Lázaro clarified that the strike is not directed against the management of the Balearic Islands' Minister of Health, Manuela García, but rather against the Spanish Minister of Health, Mónica García, and against the government of Pedro Sánchez, which, in Lázaro's opinion, "is responsible for the situation of all doctors." The group is protesting because the updated regulations governing their labor rights "do not address the Achilles' heel of the public healthcare system, which is the shortage of specialist doctors," and therefore "has been met with absolute rejection" by the entire sector, they stated. The doctors denounce that the draft does not recognize the unique nature of the profession nor guarantee decent working conditions. They criticize the excessive workload, the precariousness of on-call shifts, the lack of fair compensation, and the complete absence of career advancement opportunities, in addition to the intention of the Ministry under Mónica García (Sumar) to prevent department heads and first-year residents from working simultaneously in the public and private sectors. Among their main demands, the doctors are calling for their own statute with specific representatives, a professional classification that recognizes the MECES III level, that on-call shifts be considered paid overtime and count towards retirement, the elimination of practices such as forced transfers and "service needs," and a service-based system.

According to the Simebal union, the first day's strike in the Balearic Islands saw "very high participation," especially in hospitals, with 85% turnout and up to 100% in Anesthesiology. In Primary Care, however, participation was between 65% and 70%, which Simebal attributed to the strain on healthcare services due to the flu. During these four days of the strike, the government has established minimum services to guarantee essential care and prevent the protest from seriously affecting patients. Thus, 100% coverage will be maintained in urgent and critical services: Emergency Room, Oncology, Radiotherapy, Dialysis, Oncological Surgery, Day Hospital, and Hospital Pharmacy, among others. Emergency and on-call services (PAC/SUAP/061) will also be guaranteed. Furthermore, each primary care center must have at least one doctor and one pediatrician on duty in the morning, with additional staffing in centers with a high number of patients.

Another day of strikes was held in June. The protest is part of the day of mobilization called across Spain to demonstrate rejection of the new draft of the Statute of the Mediterranean proposed by the Ministry of Health. Nearly 200 strikers demonstrated outside the Spanish government delegation. Medical professionals believe the new text fails to recognize the uniqueness of their profession and represents a setback in terms of labor rights. They demand that on-call work be voluntary, fairly paid, and count toward retirement, in addition to guaranteeing rest periods, limiting care overload, and establishing a professional career model aligned with medical training and responsibility.
