The Lul·lià General Study has opened a new call for an artistic creation scholarship endowed with 4,000 euros to promote projects linked to the popular culture of the Balearic Islands. The initiative is aimed at artists over 18 years of age, without restrictions on discipline, with the aim of fostering new creative perspectives based on the cultural heritage of the Islands.

The Llull Laboratory – a space for experimentation, teaching, debate, and dissemination, inspired by Ramon Llull's ideas as a source of reflection created by the Estudi General Lul·lià – has announced, following the success of the first edition, a second call for international artistic creation grants for projects linked to the work of Ramon Llull, thus fostering the dissemination and research of Lullian thought through contemporary art.

Greek multi-instrumentalist and composer Christos Barbas, winner of the first international grant for creation and artistic residency at the Laboratorio Llull, presented his project this Thursday, November 27. Lux in Tenebris at the headquarters of the Estudi General Lul·lià, coinciding with the feast day of Ramon Llull. The composition is a contemporary mass for heart of voices and ney (a reed flute native to the Middle East) inspired by the Book of Friend and Beloved by Ramon Llull.

Ramon Llull is the eccentric mystic of Catalan literature. Born in Palma in 1232, he was the son of Catalan noble settlers who arrived following the conquest by James I. In his thirties, his frivolous and worldly life took a complete turn after hearing a sermon by the Bishop of Mallorca about Saint Francis of Assisi. He had previously witnessed five apparitions of the crucified Christ. He then abandoned his wife and two children to dedicate himself body and soul to writing his famous ArsA universal method for combating the 'errors' of the infidels, for which he would be considered the precursor of computer science. To gain more allies in this cause, he founded a missionary school in Miramar, on the coast of Valldemossa, with the patronage of King James II. He also traveled to Europe to secure the support of popes, monarchs, and lords.

Bringing together citizens, organizations, the scientific community, and the economic sector, providing training on climate change, and promoting action to address the challenges we face are the main objectives of the Climate Academy, a laboratory and platform for organizations created to overcome the gap between scientific and technical knowledge and the dissemination of everything related to climate change. The promoters of this initiative are the Estudi General Lul·lià, which will host it, and Palma XXI. Participating organizations include Friends of the Earth, Mallorca Preservation, Marilles, Plan XXI, the College of Environmentalists, the Mediterranean Initiatives Foundation, and Tramuntana XXI. The Academy also has the support of Caixa Colonya.
