The owner of Medusa Beach, the Playa de Palma venue that collapsed in May 2024, killing four people and injuring 14, has given €250,000 to the court handling the case to be given unconditionally to the families of the victims. According to Europa Press, in addition to his willingness to give this amount to the families of those who died and were injured, during his twenty-minute statement at the courthouse on Vía de Alemania, where he limited himself to answering questions from his defense, the man stated that he insured the property in 2013 and that when he became the administrator in 2021, neither the Palma City Council nor any other institution reported any irregularities to him. During his statement as a person under investigation, requested by the suspect's defense, the presence of a German interpreter was requested. The man left the courthouse around 10:15 a.m. accompanied by his lawyers, Ángel Aragón and Agustín Aguiló, who declined to provide details of the statement "out of respect for the proceedings." The man had been summoned to appear before the judge several times, but the hearing was postponed repeatedly until this Tuesday due to various issues. It was initially scheduled for March 26th but was postponed four times. The owner of Medusa Beach, who is currently free on bail, faces four counts of manslaughter and six counts of causing injury, all due to gross negligence. The collapse of the establishment, which resulted in four deaths and 14 injuries, occurred around 8:20 p.m. on May 23rd of last year. Part of a terrace where customers and employees were located collapsed, falling from the first floor to the basement, which belonged to another entertainment venue that was closed to the public at the time.
