The Tourism Department of the Consell de Mallorca (Mallorca Council) has imposed and notified fines totaling more than €300,000 on a building in Palma where several properties were found to be engaged in illegal tourist rentals without a license.

Unió de Pagesos, the union representing Menorcan livestock farmers, has been the first to speak out against the new agricultural law currently being processed by the Balearic Parliament. They believe it opens the door to tourism and further flooding of the countryside with solar panels, without any direct benefit to those who actually work the land.
