Often, the media is lazy and jumps on the bandwagon of topics that are already circulating, as if we had to uncover some secret that no one knew. Menopause, the therianThe Ozempic... We're all in this together, searching for impactful stories and developing theories with the help of experts. Unwanted loneliness is one of those topics. It's very sad when someone who longs for companionship and human warmth can't find a way to feel better, especially when it's someone very old, someone who thinks they'll spend their final years alone.

Loneliness is not just a problem affecting the elderly; increasingly, young people and adults are living alone. Ferran Didac i Lluch, a philosopher from Mahón specializing in geography, even predicts that unwanted loneliness will increase by 62% in the Islands over the next 15 years. Many of these people will also spend the Christmas and New Year holidays alone, when social isolation due to a lack of relationships or unforeseen circumstances becomes more pronounced. Women, especially in old age and due to their greater longevity, are more likely to live alone and, therefore, are more likely to face these kinds of situations.

The man climbed the stairs with difficulty. From what we knew, he even peed in the communal stairwell's mop bucket, which the cleaning staff hid in the basement under the first flight of steps. And he smoked, always carrying a cigarette butt in his mouth, and getting to the second floor—a third if you count the main floor—would take him a long time, snoring and snoring. People from Social Services would come to his house to clean it, or to help him cook, wash his clothes, or take a shower.
