The Pityusic wall lizard, one of the most emblematic species of the Pityusic Islands, continues in regression at the Ses Salines d'Eivissa Natural Park. The 2026 monitoring has detected an especially worrying situation at Es Codolar and the Torre des Carregador: in July, only one specimen was observed on each of the routes, when in 2024 up to 48 had been counted.

The Civil Guard is already investigating the two complaints that GEN-GOB filed regarding water management at Ibiza airport, as confirmed by the entity to ARA Balears. The Nature Protection Service (Seprona) has opened proceedings on the two fronts that the environmentalists have brought to their attention: on one hand, the water supply of the airport premises and the management of the saline waste generated by its treatment and, on the other, the wastewater and spills detected in the surroundings of Es Codolar. The Environmental Prosecutor's Office has also confirmed to this newspaper that it is investigating the case.

The expansion of Ibiza airport projected by Aena would affect two peripheral protection zones of the ses Salines natural park, as reported this Thursday by the environmental organization GEN-GOB. One is located to the east of the terminal, where the airport operator plans to build a new building, and the other to the west, in the area of the stream that the project proposes to bury.

Cala Saladeta was filled with people this Saturday during the Popular Xindriada convened by the Joves d'Eivissa association. The gathering also served as a protest event to denounce the consequences of overpopulation that, according to participants, the island is suffering.

The GEN-GOB has filed a complaint with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, the Ministry for Ecological Transition, the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, and the State Air Safety Agency against AENA's plans to expand the capacity of Ibiza airport. The entity considers that the projects planned in the Airport Regulation Document (DORA III) violate the current Master Plan and prioritize economic benefit over the general interest and the protection of the territory.

The president of the Consell de Eivissa, Vicent Marí, has spoken out against the planned expansion of the island's airport. In statements to IB3 Ràdio, the president assured that these works "go against the tourism model proposed by the Consell" and also criticized harshly that he had to learn about both the expansion and the details of the works through the media. "We don't have to grow in quantity, we have to grow in quality," Marí stated.

GEN-GOB Eivissa has awarded its 2025 Formigó Prize to the President of the Balearic Government, Marga Prohens, in a scathing critique of the territorial and urban planning policies implemented this past year. The environmental organization maintains that the Government's measures are aimed at "more concrete, more tourists, and less quality of life" in a territory facing "a territorial, social, and environmental emergency." The organization believes that the new laws presented by the Government open the door to more construction on rural land, increased urban density, and regularization in coastal areas—measures that "doom" the Pitiusas Islands and exacerbate a situation they describe as "absolute chaos," where no political option is being treated "like a cow to be milked dry." In contrast to the Formigó Prize, the organization has awarded the 2025 Savina Prize posthumously to Joan Pereyra Tur, veterinarian, underwater photographer, and environmental communicator. The environmental group GEN-GOB has sent a letter to the Ministry of Agriculture requesting the withdrawal of the draft agricultural law, which is currently undergoing public consultation. They argue that the Balearic Islands Government "intends to deliver the final blow to the farming community," making it a target for investment funds and tourism companies to incorporate into "the islands' over-developed tourism sector," exacerbating the problem of dependence on tourism and "relegating farming to a marginal activity."
