Upon assuming the presidency of the government, Marga Prohens abolished the requirement via decree-law on August 28, 2023. Since then, knowledge of Catalan has gone from being mandatory to merely an asset for accessing public healthcare positions. This measure is included in the agreement Prohens signed with Vox to be invested as prime minister. However, it actually bears the signature of the People's Party (PP), as they had already committed to its implementation during the campaign.

"We don't want to continue being mistreated." This was announced Wednesday by the president of the Balearic Islands Doctors' Union (Simebal), Miguel Lázaro, who explained that the strike's methodology will be announced after negotiations with the Madrid unions. He specified that the strike will take place if the Spanish Minister of Health does not contact the unions before February. Lázaro clarified that the strike is not directed against the management of the Balearic Islands' Minister of Health, Manuela García, but rather against the Spanish Minister of Health, Mónica García, and against the government of Pedro Sánchez, which, in Lázaro's opinion, "is responsible for the situation of all doctors." The group is protesting because the updated regulations governing their labor rights "do not address the Achilles' heel of the public healthcare system, which is the shortage of specialist doctors," and therefore "has been met with absolute rejection" by the entire sector, they stated. The doctors denounce that the draft does not recognize the unique nature of the profession nor guarantee decent working conditions. They criticize the excessive workload, the precariousness of on-call shifts, the lack of fair compensation, and the complete absence of career advancement opportunities, in addition to the intention of the Ministry under Mónica García (Sumar) to prevent department heads and first-year residents from working simultaneously in the public and private sectors. Among their main demands, the doctors are calling for their own statute with specific representatives, a professional classification that recognizes the MECES III level, that on-call shifts be considered paid overtime and count towards retirement, the elimination of practices such as forced transfers and "service needs," and a service-based system.

According to a statement released by the Local Police, the incident began when a private ambulance was dispatched to attend to a woman with a bleeding head wound and clear signs of alcohol intoxication. According to the complaint filed by the assaulted paramedic, when he attempted to assist the woman inside the ambulance, she unexpectedly punched him in the nose. She then threw medical supplies at the other paramedic, refused further treatment, and left the scene. The victim requested police assistance and went to a medical center, where he was diagnosed with a nasal septum injury. Shortly after, a patrol from the Local Police's Immediate Intervention Unit (UII) was alerted on Argentina Avenue by a taxi driver who claimed that a woman was verbally abusing him because he refused to take her due to her condition. The officers confirmed that it was the same person involved in the assault on the medical personnel. Although a fully equipped ambulance from the 061 emergency service arrived at the scene, the woman again refused assistance. Following the incident and the formal complaint filed by the victim, the corresponding legal proceedings were initiated and have already been sent to the judicial authorities.

This is the most common question parents, siblings, and friends ask us when we declare, with the joy of having passed the university entrance exams and the light in the eyes of youth, that we want to pursue these studies. This also applies to any philology. We always tend to think of teaching (it's the most common option, let's not fool ourselves), but we will find philologists and linguists in bookstores, publishing houses, libraries, in language correction services of many public and private entities, not to mention radio or television. Many people tend to think: "Of course, they're a literary person."
