The initiative, promoted by ARCA, GOB, Palma XXI, and Fridays For Future Mallorca, calls for a reorganization of port uses that is "logical, quick to execute, and respectful of historical heritage and the environment". The project they question includes the possible implementation of an industrial estate and a waste treatment plant in the Portopí dock. According to the organizations, this action would constitute an "environmental and landscape aggression" in a space with high historical and symbolic value for the city.

This infrastructure would be designed to manage flammable and hazardous materials, including those originating from outside the port. The eco-sovereignist party warns that this initiative poses "an immediate and serious threat" to Sant Carles Castle and the Portopí Signal Tower, both listed as Cultural Heritage Sites (BIC). MÉS's representative in Congress, Vicenç Vidal, and the MÉS spokesperson for Palma, Neus Truyol, explained at a press conference that the project violates heritage protection regulations and demanded urgent action from all the administrations involved. "Turning this space into a waste disposal plant is an attack on heritage, the landscape, the environment, and common sense. No responsible government should allow it," Vidal declared.

This activity is part of the program. The secret heritage of the ports of the Balearic IslandsThe initiative, launched a year ago, has been guided from the outset by Fita a Fita – a cultural and family-friendly hiking program – and complemented by articles published concurrently in the newspaper, both in print and online. Supported by the Balearic Islands Port Authority, the initiative's main objective is to explore the archipelago's main ports on foot to understand the land-sea relationship that has developed around them throughout history. It offers a different perspective on ports as strategic hubs for the exchange of people, goods, and culture—a daily reality today, but one that has shaped the waterfronts of Palma, Alcudia, Maó, Ibiza, and La Savina.
