These dogs were rescued during an operation on February 24th at a property in Palma, where they were found in very poor condition. The operation was carried out by officers from the Seprona (Nature Protection Service of the Civil Guard), the Guardia Civil (Civil Guard), and technicians from the Ministry of Agriculture, who discovered numerous irregularities and a situation incompatible with animal welfare regulations, the Palma City Council reported. Between February 25th and 26th, municipal veterinary services transferred the animals to the Son Reus facilities, where all the dogs were assessed. They were treated for internal and external parasites, vaccinated, microchipped, cleaned, and underwent various diagnostic tests, including a rapid test for leishmaniasis and complete blood work in those cases exhibiting clinical symptoms. The animals requiring more intensive monitoring were admitted under veterinary supervision, while the rest were placed in the Son Reus center after a favorable clinical evolution was confirmed. Cort specified that the 50 dogs are currently in optimal condition and that, starting this Wednesday, they were made available to the public for responsible adoption, after having been exposed to a situation of "extreme vulnerability."

The Sencelles Town Council has launched a canine genetic census with the aim of improving coexistence in the municipality, promoting responsible pet ownership, and moving towards a cleaner town. This pioneering initiative in the municipality allows for the identification of all dogs through a simple saliva sample and is free for their owners. Registration is mandatory for all dogs living in Sencelles, regardless of whether their owners are registered residents. Registration is free until March 31, 2026. Following the first sessions held on January 16 and 17, the Town Council has scheduled further sessions on January 30 and 31, with appointments still available. One of the main objectives of the genetic census is to reinforce civic responsibility and respect for public spaces. The system will allow for the identification of animals and action to be taken against uncivil behavior, especially regarding the collection of dog feces. The city council wants to emphasize the importance of keeping the streets clean and avoiding practices such as leaving bags of dog feces on the sidewalks, a problem that causes discomfort among residents.

https://en.arabalears.cat/society/27-dead-dogs-found-in-in-palma_1_5548126.html

The Civil Guard is continuing its investigation into the deaths of 27 hunting dogs found dead in a van traveling in the hold of a ship in the port of Palma. Investigators from the Nature Protection Service (Seprona) are awaiting the results of necropsies to determine the circumstances of the animals' deaths, sources from the force indicated. The bodies were discovered on Saturday morning inside a van traveling on a ship from Barcelona that had just docked in Palma. Apparently, a group of hunters from Mallorca had spent several days in Lithuania training 36 dogs for the woodcock hunting season. Of all these animals, which were being transported back to the island in a van, only nine arrived alive. The Seprona (Nature Protection Service) of the Civil Guard Command in the Balearic Islands took charge of the investigation from the outset, and officers are awaiting the results of necropsies performed on some of the dogs. The Balearic Hunting Federation regrets the dogs' deaths.

The Balearic Hunting Federation has expressed its sorrow over the deaths of 27 dogs and noted that other dogs in the group were also seriously injured. The president of the Balearic organization, Marta Lliteres, conveyed her support to the dog owners, who stated they are "deeply affected by the incident." In a statement, the organization emphasized that for any hunter, their dogs are not simply working animals, but "inseparable" companions, the result of years of dedication and affection. According to the federation, the hunters had hired a company specializing in animal transport to ensure the dogs' well-being and safety. The journey from Lithuania to Barcelona proceeded normally, and it was during the sea voyage to Palma that 27 of the 36 animals being transported on the ship died.
