The Manacor City Council has approved changes to the water rates for water supplied by SAM, the municipal company responsible for its management. The new, more socially oriented system will offer discounts on bills for, for example, large families, single-parent families, families with a dependent person, or families with a victim of gender-based violence. Thus, the City Council is establishing a system of consumption blocks from now on, in order to implement progressive tariffs and "so that those who consume more pay more," explained the Councilor for the Environment and President of the Board of Directors of SAM, Sebastià Llodrà, who recalled that water prices have not been touched since the population changed.

The GOB Mallorca environmental group has warned of discrepancies between the seasonal facilities project submitted for public comment by the Palma City Council and the tender published on the Public Sector Procurement Platform, which includes rates "significantly" higher than those initially planned. The environmental organization stated in a press release that the initial project included an economic and financial study with maximum unit rates for services such as sunbeds, parasols, and pedal boats throughout the municipality. However, as they have denounced, the tender includes a new study with higher prices and even services not previously included, such as premium sunbeds and canvas parasols, which could lead to charges exceeding authorized levels.

The Council of Mallorca will reduce the Construction and Demolition Waste (CDW) rate on the island by 20.51% next year. With this reduction, the fee will drop from the current €42.23 per ton to €33.57. The initiative, announced this Monday by the president of the island institution, Llorenç Galmés, will be debated at the plenary session of the Council on November 13th. The new rate results from the annual review stipulated in the contract with the concessionaire of the public waste service, MAC Insular. Galmés noted that this is the second consecutive reduction, as the island institution lowered the CDW rate by 4% earlier this year. "In just two years, we have managed to reduce the construction and demolition waste treatment fee by 24%, far exceeding our initial target. This government is very clear that politics should serve the interests of citizens and should solve real problems, not create new ones and stifle them with tax increases."
