At least until the next Catalan elections. The socialists are soaring in the polls and if elections were held today in Parliament, Salvador Illa would clearly win with between 39 and 45 seats, ahead of ERC (29-34) and Junts (19-24), who have been losing ground as the legislature has progressed. The results are collected by the Barometer of the Center for Opinion Studies (CEO), which was made public today, the day after Pedro Sánchez's investiture, although the polls were conducted a few weeks ago, before the PSOE's agreements with ERC and Junts. the day after Pedro Sánchez's investiture, even though the polls were conducted a few weeks ago, before the PSOE's agreements with ERC and Junts. In the July poll, the PSC was also first, but with an estimate of 31-37 seats, practically tied with Esquerra, which obtained between 31 and 36.

According to the latest survey, published by Crónica Global, the socialists would improve their 2021 results and would secure 38 deputies – they currently have 33. However, Illa could once again emerge as the winner at the polls without reaching the Generalitat. According to the survey, pro-independence parties would maintain their majority with 69 seats, with Junts (33 deputies) ahead of Esquerra (28 deputies) and the CUP (8 deputies), a sum that could open the door to the investiture of former president Carles Puigdemont. Another possible governing majority would involve a tripartite government of socialists, republicans, and commons, who would secure five deputies in Parliament. Nevertheless, Esquerra has already publicly refused to make Illa president of the Generalitat.

The PP has advanced strongly everywhere, but especially in Andalusia, in the Valencian Country and also in Madrid, in both regional and municipal elections. Now it hopes to do the same in the general elections on July 23, as all polls predict, including the CIS poll. They are, along with Catalonia, the key territories to pave the way to Moncloa. For this reason, it is in the Principality where the socialists are risking a good part of their credit. Pedro Sánchez knows that the differential he achieves with the PP in Catalonia could end up being decisive, especially if he loses momentum in other autonomies. The PSC will win the elections by a wide margin, according to the poll that the Opinòmetre Institute has conducted for ARA. With a range of between 14 and 16 deputies, the socialists will return to the first position fifteen years later. And what will be the differential with the PP? The popular party, also on the rise, capturing the majority of Cs' vote, would be left with between 5 and 7 deputies in the Spanish Congress.

The presidents of both territories, Salvador Illa and Marga Prohens, met this Friday in Palma, but their disagreements over regional financing proved irreconcilable. While the Catalan president, Illa, called for a united front before the meeting to secure funding that addresses the unique circumstances of both Catalonia and the Balearic Islands, Prohens rejected any bilateral approach and urged Illa to negotiate with Spain exclusively in multilateral forums. If he fails to do so, she warned, the Balearic Islands will appeal "to every possible authority." "How does Catalonia's desire for greater self-government harm the Balearic Islands?" the Socialist leader asked at a breakfast briefing prior to the meeting. "Let each region go its own way; Catalonia will go its own way," he stated. "They're talking about reforming the financing system when the debate hasn't even begun," Prohens retorted in statements following the meeting. "If it's only been opened for Catalonia, I reject it outright." Following the directives from the People's Party headquarters in Madrid, the Popular Party representative called for "alliances and points of agreement among all the autonomous communities, but not specifically for Catalonia": "There's nothing in our Constitution that grants it special status; the only recognized special status is that of the non-peninsular territories." In this regard, she called on Isla to close ranks and demand that the reform of the financing system take into account "population growth, the transient population, the principle of ordinality, and insularity." "We are the second largest contributor to the system, behind Madrid and ahead of Catalonia," she explained. "We can defend these issues together, but it is essential that Catalonia participate in multilateral forums, like everyone else," he argued. In this regard, Isla urged Prohens to put aside "the recriminations" and work together at the Fiscal and Financial Policy Council (PFF), scheduled for next Monday.

According to sources at the Consolat de Mar and the Generalitat, the meeting was arranged at the Socialist leader's request. Illa will be in Palma with the Speaker of the Congress of Deputies, Francina Armengol, to attend a Prensa Ibérica gala. Sources from the Catalan president's team explain that he always offers to visit the president of another region whenever he travels there, and confirm that the meeting is confirmed. This is the second attempt by the two presidents to meet. In April 2025, they arranged a meeting on the occasion of the transfer of the presidency of the Pyrenees-Mediterranean Euroregion, the territorial cooperation organization between the Catalan, Balearic, and Occitanie regional governments. They were ultimately unable to meet due to time constraints. However, they already greeted each other last June in Madrid, during the Conference of Presidents.
