The Cathedral has launched a columbarium service located in the crypt beneath the presbytery, allowing the remains of the deceased to be kept in a sacred space in the heart of Palma. Two options are available, with 25-year renewable concessions. Specifically, the institution offers two types of spaces: the dual columbarium, with capacity for two urns and a cost of €3,000, and the family columbarium, with capacity for four urns and a price of €5,000. Thus, ashes can be stored in the Cathedral starting at €3,000.

The foundations have small landings on both sides and two cubicles at the bottom, according to the City Council. Municipal workers proceeded to close the sides and part of the staircase, while firefighters are reinforcing the left side to ensure its stability. The intervention only affects this section of the staircase, which corresponds to a construction addition from the 1950s, and the rest of the structure is unaffected. To ensure accessibility, a walkway approximately two meters wide has been opened to allow safe pedestrian traffic while the area remains cordoned off. The City Council is preparing a technical report that will determine the necessary actions to repair this part of the structure and ensure the safety of visitors and residents.

Gaudí's work in Mallorca, between 1904 and 1915, transformed the interior of the temple with a renewal of sacred art in service of faith and liturgy, adapting the heart of the cathedral, the episcopal throne, and the presbytery altar. The project also includes the baldachin over the altar, the lighting renovation, the ceramic mural on the throne, the Chapel of the Holy Trinity, and the liturgical furnishings, all of which demonstrate Gaudí's unique influence on the Cathedral. The Gaudí Year 2026 has been declared an Event of Special Public Interest by the Spanish government and includes the participation of sixteen other buildings where the architect worked, in Catalonia, León, and Cantabria.

The event will take place on February 2nd at 8:00 AM. Cathedral officials have issued an invitation to islanders and foreigners alike, which has stirred some controversy as it is in Spanish rather than Catalan. The doors will open at 8:00 AM, and access will be through the Almoina portal. The figure eight typically begins to form around 8:30 AM and lasts only about five minutes.

The Cathedral was transformed into a Bach-infused spectacle. To the popular and widespread messianic tradition of George Frideric Handel, we must add this small but significant glimpse of the immense and marble-like master. Christmas Oratorio BWV 248 The Capilla de la Seu, directed by Joan Company, and the Illes Balears Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Pablo Mielgo, have been performing for several years in the cathedral's presbytery, beneath Gaudí's baldachin and alongside Jujol's transgressive and incendiary paintings. And if the setting can only be described as sublime, the concert shone equally brightly, with soprano Irene Mas, countertenor-soprano Rafael Quirant, tenor Bryan López, and baritone Tomeu Bibiloni as vocal soloists. As for the orchestra's soloists, Emma Goillot, on the piccolo trumpet—a small, four-valve instrument tuned to D—consolably captivated the audience. Bach trumpet— in his speech, performing with Tomeu Bibiloni an excellent Gosser Herr, or Starker König.

https://en.arabalears.cat/culture/this-is-how-the-festival-of-light-looked-at-the-cathedral_1_5557758.html

Mallorca Cathedral experienced the luminous phenomenon known as the Festival of Light this Tuesday, the feast day of Saint Martin. At dawn, the sun shines through the rose window, projecting its reflection onto the opposite façade. The cathedral opened its doors at 7:30 a.m. to welcome those who wished to witness the spectacle. This event, which occurs only twice a year, offers a breathtaking display of light as the rising sun passes through the cathedral's 11.38-meter-diameter rose window and projects its reflection onto the opposite façade, creating a double rose window: one made of glass. The resulting image—known as the "figure eight" of the cathedral—is a symbol of ephemeral beauty that draws visitors and onlookers every year. In addition to November 11th, this phenomenon can also be observed on February 2nd, Candlemas. The Cathedral of Mallorca is built on the remains of a former mosque. Its unique 120° SE alignment, the strategic location of the main rose window, and the completion of a stained-glass installation program in all available windows and oculi of the cathedral, which began in the 20th century, allow for this singular projection. Furthermore, the restoration of the main rose window in 2010 ensures that this exaltation of colors and shadows remains intact.
