Several areas of Mallorca recorded frost during the night and early hours of Wednesday, with sub-zero temperatures in much of the interior of the island.

Mallorca has activated a yellow weather warning for cold and sub-zero temperatures from midnight until early Wednesday morning, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). The warning will be in effect until 7:59 a.m. on Wednesday due to the forecast of minimum temperatures that could reach between -2 and -3 degrees Celsius in different parts of the island, especially in inland and high mountain areas. Meanwhile, Menorca will maintain an orange warning for strong winds and coastal phenomena from midnight. North wind gusts of between 60 and 70 kilometers per hour, corresponding to force 8, are expected, along with waves of four to five meters, with a maximum height that could reach eight or nine meters. Aemet recommends taking extreme precautions during this episode of intense cold and rough seas, especially when traveling and engaging in outdoor activities, and also in the most exposed coastal areas.

The Arctic polar air mass that will begin to be felt in the Balearic Islands this summer will continue to affect the archipelago this December 6, Christmas Day, which will be the coldest of the storm according to the forecasts of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).

The peak of the sharp drop in temperatures in the Balearic Islands arrived this Friday with showers, storms, and a light snowfall in the Tramuntana mountain range and on Puig Major, just as predicted by Aemet (the Spanish State Meteorological Agency). Albert Darder, the meteorologist in charge of the Puig Major weather station, reported that up to three centimeters of snow accumulated on the summit of the Tramuntana range. He also noted that the temperature plummeted to zero degrees Celsius during the early morning hours.
