The general secretary of the Palma Socialist Group, Iago Negueruela, has been proclaimed the PSOE candidate for the mayoralty of Palma for the municipal elections of 2027. He has gone from being the right-hand man of the Government of Francina Armengol and head of the Parliamentary Group to leading the party – since March 2025 – in the capital of the Balearic Islands. He assures that he is taking the step towards municipal politics because he considers that "Palma is not well" and defends that a change of course is needed after three years of PP government with Vox.

Iago Negueruela announced this Tuesday that he will run in the PSIB primaries in Palma to be the candidate for mayor of the city in the next municipal elections, scheduled for May 2027. "I am presenting myself with strength, desire, and enthusiasm to transform and improve our city. It is a wonderful city, which has many problems that have accumulated and increased in the last three years," declared the current general secretary of the socialist group of Palma.

The Tourism Department of the Consell de Mallorca (Island Council of Mallorca) reportedly requested the removal of the listing after a press conference held this Monday at the property by the Secretary General of the PSIB in Palma, Iago Negueruela.

Socialist councilor Angélica Pastor has left her full-time dedication to the Socialist municipal group and has moved to a part-time position. Despite this change, Pastor will remain a councilor and will continue to attend City Council plenary sessions. She will now combine her political activism with her professional activity as a lawyer. This decision marks a shift in her political career after several terms in positions of significant responsibility and coincides with a reorganization of the party structure in Palma. In fact, the change coincides with an internal restructuring of the PSOE in Palma, following the appointment of Yago Negueruela as general secretary of the local Socialist group.
