The Inca Regional Hospital hosted another session of its citizen participation committee, a meeting that serves to share data, projects, and concerns with institutional representatives and patient associations from the region. The meeting was attended by members of the hospital's management team, led by the manager, Xisco Ferrer, as well as the Primary Care Manager for Mallorca, Carlos Raduán, and the Healthcare Director of the Balearic Islands Health Service, Raúl Lara. Mayors and councilors from municipalities such as Alcúdia, Inca, Sa Pobla, Pollensa, Santa Margalida, Sineu, Búger, Campanet, Llubí, Sencelles, Costitx, and Lloret, among others, also attended. During the session, the main lines of the 2025-2030 strategic plan and the objectives set for 2026 were presented, in addition to the release of the 2025 healthcare report. Last year, the center recorded 142,305 outpatient visits and 80,123 inpatient visits. Furthermore, 5,776 surgical procedures were performed, along with nearly 109,000 radiological tests, 5,473 dialysis sessions, almost 90,000 physiotherapy sessions, and 824 medical reports. Management praised the work of the approximately 1,250 professionals on staff and highlighted some recently implemented improvements, such as the introduction of free television and telephone service in all rooms, the milestone of performing the first endoscopic lumbar spine surgeries, and technological upgrades in various areas. The hospital serves a population of 146,575 and has 181 inpatient beds, 81 consulting rooms and offices, six operating theaters, and eight beds for critical care patients. The annual meeting of the citizen participation committee thus consolidates a space for direct communication between the healthcare center and the area it serves.

The mayor of Manacor, Miquel Oliver, met with representatives of the Levante Women's Collective to address concerns about the reduction in Gynecology and Obstetrics services at Manacor Hospital. The meeting served to gather the demands of nearly forty organizations from the Balearic Islands, concerned about the closure of the delivery rooms following the Contingency Plan announced by the Ministry of Health, which was in effect last December and again between January 19th and 27th. Oliver expressed concern about the progressive weakening of public services and assured that the City Council will demand official explanations and the immediate restoration of services. He also confirmed that he will convey these demands directly to the President of the Balearic Government and the Minister of Health. "We firmly defend the right of women and families to receive quality, accessible care. Although there are indications that some services have resumed, we want official confirmation and guarantees that this situation will not be repeated," stated Oliver. The Levante Women's Collective has demanded more resources and better management of existing services to ensure that women can give birth in Manacor. They also warned of the risk that this process could contribute to a covert privatization of public healthcare. This meeting follows a motion unanimously approved by the City Council this January, in which all municipal groups called for increased services at Manacor Hospital and highlighted the lack of professionals in essential areas such as Radiology, Anesthesia, and Obstetrics, as well as the urgent need for reinforcements to guarantee [the necessary services].

Not having children was frowned upon. For most, the only possible contraceptive method was choosing the days of their menstrual cycle when they didn't ovulate. And this wasn't always calculated accurately. Then they had to think about the moment of childbirth, which took place at home in less than ideal conditions. Catalina Noguera Garí, 85, remembers that experience very well. She greets us sitting near the brazier in her house in Vilafranca de Bonany, intrigued to know what interest her life might hold. Two of her four children, Maria and Miquel, are with her.

Every time his cell phone rings, a flamenco song plays loudly, and he gets angry if it's a company trying to advertise for the umpteenth time. We spent 24 hours with him, met his wife, two of his children, in-laws, and other relatives, and laughed at his grandson's videos.
