The initiative passed with votes in favor from the People's Party (PP) and Vox, Europa Press reports. Parliament demands that these deductions and allowances be applied according to the "state priority criterion and excluding those without legal residency in Spain." Conversely, it rejected establishing a partial deduction for basic household expenses for large Spanish families in the regional portion of the Personal Income Tax (IRPF), with Vox being the sole opposition party.

Having moved beyond that debate and once it was understood and accepted that the cultural sector, like agriculture or industry, needs public investment, numerous grants from various institutions have been consolidated in the Balearic Islands over the last decade. And while these have contributed to the professionalization of the sector, the debates surrounding their operation and the resulting cultural fabric are quite diverse: from the transformation of many creators into managers, to the design of cultural programs and activities based on grant requirements, among others. Broadly speaking, Balearic institutions offer two types of cultural grants: competitive grants, where receiving the aid depends on meeting a series of requirements and which several cultural agents can apply for, and designated grants, which are awarded to specific agents based on their merits. In both cases there have been significant changes in recent years, especially noticeable with regard to the latter, the designated grants.

The Ministry of Families, Social Welfare, and Dependency Care will allocate €1,620,000 in direct aid to people affected by Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) during 2026 and 2027. The aim is to finance the comprehensive care and support required by this disease, as defined by the disease guidelines. The aid will consist of a monthly benefit of €1,000 for each person diagnosed with ALS. The Ministry states that this support program aims to contribute to improving the quality of life of patients, as well as their families and caregivers, in the face of the social, health, employment, and economic impact of the disease. The Government launched this aid program in 2024 to cover the costs associated with care and to respond to the needs of the ALS community and their families. This measure aims to strengthen the coverage of the System for Autonomy and Care for Dependency and support the needs that arise throughout the progression of the disease. The Director General of Care for Dependency and People with Disabilities, María Castro, highlighted that this call for applications has positioned the Balearic Islands as a pioneering territory and represents "a step forward in providing dignified care to people with ALS and their families." In the previous call for applications, corresponding to the years 2024 and 2025, the Ministry of Families and Social Affairs granted these subsidies to a total of 93 people in the Islands, with the same monthly amount.

If we believe in culture, language, and literature, it is considered beneficial to have public funds subsidizing literary creation—a form of patronage that aims to promote excellence, creativity, and art forms that the market may not be able to sustain on its own.
