More than 20 organizations have expressed their concern over the reduction in Gynecology and Obstetrics services at Manacor Hospital, following the activation of a contingency plan that has left the delivery room virtually without routine procedures. Health sources confirmed that the contingency plan will be deactivated this week, with the aim of allowing the service to return to normal and resume attending to all births without restrictions. The statement, signed by the Levante Women's Collective and more than 20 other associations, denounces that this situation jeopardizes women's rights and the quality of public service. "We wish to express our concern following the recent negative news regarding the reduction in Gynecology services at Manacor Hospital," they state, and emphasize that their demands are "centered on women's rights and the rights of all people, based on human values."

An empty delivery room, mothers avoiding Manacor Hospital for fear of not receiving care, a tense work environment, and widespread frustration among midwives and gynecologists. This is the reality the hospital has faced since January 19, when the Valencian Health Department activated a contingency plan due to a shortage of gynecologists to cover shifts after 3:00 PM and on weekends, following unexpected absences. The plan has cleared the delivery room: some mothers have been transferred to other hospitals, and others have opted for alternative facilities. The Health Department plans to suspend the measure and restore normal services the week of January 26. It remains to be seen whether it will have to be reactivated later. For now, the Health Department has experienced firsthand the outrage of patients and staff after a week in which the Manacor delivery room has been deserted and the midwives, with nothing to do, have mobilized.

The Criminal Court number 4 of Palma issued a sentence this week in a case of assault that took place at Manacor Hospital almost a year ago, in December 2024. The judge accepted the final conclusions of the Public Prosecutor's Office and sentenced a patient to six months in prison and a fine for repeatedly assaulting a nursing assistant while she was performing her duties. The events (which initially went through the Court of Instruction number 3 of Manacor) date back to Saint Stephen's Day last year, when, at 8:30 a.m., a patient who had just been discharged and was leaving consultation room number 5 of the Psychiatry department was waiting for some orderlies to take her home. Impatient with the wait, the woman went to consultation room number 6 of the Traumatology department to ask if the orderlies would be arriving much soon.
