The Calvià Town Hall expects that the majority of residents of the Magaluf apartment block affected by the fire declared this Thursday will be able to return to their homes starting next Monday, once the technical inspections of the property have been completed. This was explained by the mayor of Calvià, Juan Antoni Amengual, during the minute of silence held this midday in memory of the two fatal victims of the incident. Amengual assured that the accommodation needs of the evacuated people are covered thanks to the collaboration of the hotel sector in the area.

An 80-year-old woman died early Friday morning in a fire caused by a brazier in her home in Vilafranca de Bonany. According to the SAMU (Emergency Medical Service), the incident occurred shortly after 5:09 a.m. when authorities received a call reporting that a woman was trapped by a fire in her home, located on Amargura Street in the town of Pla de Mallorca.

The presiding judge of the Jury Court of the Provincial Court of the Balearic Islands has sentenced the woman accused of the deadly fire in Les Països (Ibiza), in which an elderly man lost his life, to life imprisonment with the possibility of review. The judge convicted her of aggravated murder of a particularly vulnerable person and of arson. According to the ruling, the defendant will not be eligible for parole until she has served 15 years in prison and will not be eligible for temporary release permits until she has served eight years. Furthermore, the woman may be eligible for a suspended sentence after serving 25 years, provided she meets the requirements stipulated in Article 92 of the Penal Code. Regarding civil liability, the convicted woman must pay €86,484 in compensation to the deceased's wife and €62,268 to each of his three children. On the other hand, she will also have to pay €48,201 and €179 for the damage caused to the burned property. According to the sentence, "in accordance with the conclusions of the jury members and the doctrine of the Supreme Court, it is justified to apply the mitigating circumstance of mental impairment to the woman."
