The Serra de Tramuntana mountain range, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2011, has launched a virtual space on the Google Arts & Culture platform to showcase its cultural and historical identity internationally. According to the Consell de Mallorca (Island Council of Mallorca), the Serra de Tramuntana Consortium has made available to the public a collection of articles and photographs that allow visitors to delve into the cultural and ethnological values of the region. The project includes three online articles and nearly one hundred photographs that highlight emblematic elements of the Serra, such as terraced fields, stone paths, the hydraulic system, estates, and villages. "It is an international showcase that explains the Serra from a cultural perspective and helps to appreciate the heritage elements that promote more conscious and respectful tourism," explained the Island Councillor for the Presidency, Antoni Fuster. The content is complemented by articles such asThe cultural landscape of the Serra de Tramuntana, Stone and waterwhich includes fifteen heritage elements—, andThe Tramuntana mountain range, village by village, with cultural routes for exploring. The virtual space, the result of an agreement between Google and the Consortium, showcases the diverse cultures that have transformed the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range over the centuries and how a balance between productivity and environmental conservation has been maintained. Google Arts & Culture is a free platform that unites heritage and technology and already offers content from more than 1,500 institutions in 70 countries, with millions of users worldwide. The Consortium plans to progressively expand the content to keep this digital space alive.
