It's scary because reality is a present with over forty wars, on a planet where 1% of humans accumulate almost half of the economic wealth, and in a country where only 1% of the population reads poetry. Nevertheless, gravity compels us to do so. Hopping on tiptoes or on one foot, with one leg in the air, and pretending it's all by chance or the will of gods we don't believe in, we can achieve the illusion of flight. It is in contact with the Earth's crust, where 40% of insect species are already endangered, that we will find a kind of immaterial and intangible reward: grounded and connected, we will feel part of something that has the possibility of moving.

The activities were organized by the Fundació Mallorca Literària to commemorate the centenary of the poet's birth. The day combined verse, music, and heritage with the aim of filling Santanyí with poetry and celebrating Blai Bonet as one of the most unique and influential voices in Mallorcan literature. The event was attended by the Vice President of the Consell de Mallorca and Island Councillor for Culture and Heritage, Antònia Roca, who emphasized that this year's celebration has a "special significance" as it marks the beginning of a year dedicated to the author. The central event was the proposal Verse on the road: Blai wake up!A poetic journey through various emblematic spaces in Santanyí combined literature and music. The day began with readings of poems by Blai Bonet, Joan Alcover, and Clementina Arderiu, three authors whose anniversaries are also being commemorated this year. During the walk, poets from various Catalan-speaking regions recited verses by Bonet and their own works at several locations throughout the town. Among the participants were notable names such as Begoña Pozo, Antoni Vidal Ferrando, Miguel Ángel Adrover, Lucía Pallisser, Adrià Targa, and Julia Febrero. The route culminated in the courtyard of the Casa Blai Bonet with readings by Sebastià Alzamora, Miquel Bezares, and Pau Vadell, who closed the event with a poem by the honored author. Following the walk, an exhibition was inaugurated. Hell is the mold At the Blai Bonet House, a poetry center, an exhibition dedicated to the poet's artistic and experimental side is on display until June 14.

It's already March 2026, which means we're fully immersed in the simultaneous celebrations of the Joan Alcover Year and the Blai Bonet Year. From the author of The Balanguera We commemorate the centenary of his death, while we celebrate the centenary of the birth of the poet from Santanyí. Obviously, centenaries and other more or less round numbers are mere pretexts, as is the reason itself—whether they were born, died, or made their First Communion. What matters is the will and the act of celebrating the memory and work of two of our greatest poets. It is always good to remember what T.S. Eliot said: that peoples who do not honor their poets are barbarian peoples. We Mallorcans (like the Menorcans, the Ibizans, and the Formenterans) are not barbarians, and that is why we do not forget to pay homage to our poets, those who wield the language of the tribe the farthest and highest. Which in our case, as everyone knows except for some stubborn fool, is the Catalan language.

Haceldama It is an Aramaic word (AkeldamaThe title, which means 'field of blood,' refers to the piece of land bought with Judas's coins that would later become a cemetery for foreigners. It is also the title of Blai Bonet's second and so unjustly maligned novel, which now sees the light of day again thanks to a meticulous edition by Nicolau Dols for Club Editor, a publishing house that has already managed to recover each and every one of the author's published novels. The goal is twofold, as the work breathes again with the original voice conceived by the unbridled novelist, without the excessive and unnecessary corrections it suffered at Editorial Aymá and which had dragged Ensiola into the reissue. Therefore, we are witnessing a noble act of literary recovery, but also a true celebration that arrives at the beginning of this Blai Bonet Year, which has barely begun. Thus, we are witnessing a cultural event of the first magnitude.

If in 2025 we celebrated the centenary of Josep M. Llompart's birth, in 2026 there will be a grand celebration for Blai Bonet, as it will be one hundred years since this illuminating writer came into the world to shake up life and poetry. Thanks to Edicions de 1984, we are fortunate to enter this Blai Bonet Year with the corrected and expanded critical edition of the Complete Poetry, by the writer from Santanyí, edited by Nicolau Dols and Gabriel ST Sampol, with a revised prologue by Margalida Pons. This fantastic 1,374-page volume expands upon what was published eleven years ago, recovering previously unpublished texts duly retrieved from the Bernat Vidal i Tomàs Archive, and also includes new poems or poems already known but with notable variations.
