The Diocese of Mallorca and Caritas Diocesana have launched an emergency campaign to support the population affected by the earthquakes that have shaken Venezuela. The initiative calls for the solidarity of Mallorcan society to help the thousands of families who have lost relatives, homes, and livelihoods.

The Association of Venezuelans in the Balearic Islands (Venbalears) has launched a fundraising campaign to support those affected by the earthquakes that shook northern Venezuela this Thursday and which, according to the latest official balance, have caused at least 164 deaths and more than a thousand injured.

The University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) condemned the detention of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro by the United States as a kidnapping and asserted that it is a further step in the "process of dismantling the international order" based on "dialogue, cooperation, and respect for national sovereignty." In a statement released this Monday, the public university explained that "the bombings perpetrated against a sovereign state, Venezuela, as well as the kidnapping of its head of state, cannot be interpreted as an isolated incident, but rather as a step in the process of dismantling the international order." The university pointed out that, after two world conflicts that caused millions of deaths, states decided to establish "an international system based on dialogue, cooperation, respect for national sovereignty, the protection of human rights, and the prohibition of the use of force."

Around 150 people gathered this Saturday afternoon in Palma's Plaza de España to protest against the actions of US President Donald Trump and to reject US intervention in Venezuela. The attendees made it clear that the demonstration did not represent support for Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, but rather a defense of peace and international dialogue. The gathering, which began at 6:00 PM, was organized by Sumud Flotilla, the Mallorca Anti-Racist Platform, and the Mallorca for Peace Platform, which brings together several social organizations, political parties, and NGOs. In statements to the media, Salvador Martínez, coordinator of Mallorca for Peace, explained that the protest was called in response to the US attack on Venezuela in the early hours of the same day, which he described as "terrifying and absolutely unacceptable." According to Martínez, the US action demonstrates "total impunity" and constitutes a violation of international law and human rights.

The Balearic Islands government expressed its "prudence" on Saturday regarding the events in Venezuela and voiced its support for Venezuelan residents in the islands, after the United States announced the arrest of President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores as part of a military operation that included bombing.
