The Balearic Ministry of Education plans to increase the number of places available for the Master's Degree in Teacher Training at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), which currently offers 322 places and is in high demand. The measure, announced this Saturday, has been welcomed by the UGT Ensenyament teachers' union. "This is a measure the union has been demanding for years, as the lack of places, especially in the later years, had forced many aspiring teachers to pursue the Master's degree at private universities, with the resulting financial burden," they pointed out. This expansion, the union stated in a press release, is "a step in the right direction to guarantee equal opportunities in access to teacher training and to respond to the real needs of the Balearic education system."
