A fire that broke out in a truck being transported in the hold of a ferry traveling between Barcelona and Palma has left 13 people suffering from smoke inhalation. According to the Balearic Islands Port Authority (APB), all required medical attention. Two others needed it for a diabetic episode and a headache, respectively. There were 169 passengers (155 adults, ten children, and four infants) and 46 crew members on board. The ferry was also carrying 68 trucks and 52 other vehicles, including cars, motorcycles, and vans. The incident occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m. inside the ferry. The vessel was sailing approximately 50 nautical miles from the Balearic capital when Maritime Rescue became aware of the fire. Although the flames had been contained, there was still a lot of smoke in the hold, which apparently came from one of the trucks it was transporting.
