The PP and Vox have prevented the Minister of the Sea and Water Cycle, Juan Manuel Lafuente, from giving explanations for the dismissal of the Director General of Coasts in a formal appearance. However, the minister has not been able to dodge the questions asked by the left regarding this matter during the control session of the Government, nor in an interpellation about the management of the coastline. Pressed by the MÉS per Mallorca deputy Maria Ramon, who questioned whether the dismissal complied with the regulations, Lafuente asserted that the dismissal was not due to "external pressures or a specific file".

The technical services of the Directorate General of Coasts and the Coastline concluded in November 2025 that there were sufficient grounds to initiate the expiry procedure for the concession of seasonal services on the beaches of Formentera. The report, to which ARA Balears has had access, expressly proposes that the competent body issue the agreement to initiate the procedure, considering that "several essential conditions" of the concession title have been breached. In other words, the criterion set by the head of the Coasts and Coastline service was to end a concession of bars and restaurants that had breached the law. Given this forcefulness, the already ousted Director General of Coasts, Maria Joaquina Ferrer – who is also a civil servant – considered that there was no other path than to follow the technical and legal criterion.

The opposition as a whole has filed a request in Parliament for an urgent appearance by the Minister of the Sea and Water Cycle, Juan Manuel Lafuente, due to the "successive scandals" affecting his department. The PSIB, MÉS per Mallorca, Més per Menorca, and Unides Podem are demanding explanations especially following the dismissal of the Director General of Costs, María Joaquina Ferrer, and from the subsequent revelations of the former official about the alleged "political interference" by the minister in the reports and files of the General Directorate.

MÉS per Mallorca has registered a request in Parliament for the appearance of the Minister of the Sea and the Water Cycle, Juan Manuel Lafuente, to explain the regulatory changes approved by the Government that allow avoiding or limiting Water Resources reports in certain urban development projects. The initiative comes after ARA Balears revealed that a modification introduced into the Omnibus Law opens the door to exempt some planning from re-certifying water availability.
