Santa Ponça returned yesterday to the year 1229 with the recreation of the landing of King James, one of the central events of the King James Festivals. More than 1,500 participants, grouped into 22 groups, 13 Christian and 9 Moorish, participated in a day that turned different points of the town into the stage for the clashes between the two sides.

"Our Lady of the Angels, assist us! Pollencins, rise up, the pirates are here!" The cry of Joan Mas has once again resounded through the streets of Pollença this Sunday and has kicked off the mock battle of Moors and Christians, the central act of the Patron Saint's festival and one of the most emblematic historical reenactments in Mallorca. Thousands of people have filled the historic center to follow a new recreation of the defense of the town against the corsair attack of 1550, on a day that has once again turned the town into an open-air stage.

“Only one defeat can be sadder than a victory: the survivors cry for those who will be absent forever, others scream in pain [...] Then come the other heroes who pick up the trash and clean the streets of urine and plastic cups”.
