A few weeks ago, I accidentally overheard a summer conversation between primary school children from Mallorca, about ten years old. They were talking about the last school year and one of them let slip, with the naturalness with which one says things heard at home, that "the best day of the school year was the day of the Feast of the Sacrifice". The others laughed and agreed. There was no need to explain it: it is a day when most of their Maghrebi classmates do not go to class. These children haven't invented anything. They are reproducing, as children always do, what they have heard adults say. And that is, precisely, what should worry us.

Yes, you read that right: James I, the champion of Christendom, who drove Islam out of Mallorca and the Pityusic Islands, provided valuable aid to the Moroccans when they wanted to invade Ceuta. It is true that, at the time, Ceuta was part of another Islamic domain. This is one of many episodes in a long history of complicated relations between neighbors. So long, in fact, that it has reached the present day.

The Anti-Racist Assembly of Mallorca demanded this Saturday respect for the rights of migrants in light of the situation in Ceuta, during a rally this noon at the Plaza de las Columnas in Palma.

The Government will "evaluate" the affordable housing draft law that the European Commission presented this week. The first vice president, Antoni Costa, has assured that they will even consider limiting the purchase of second homes if Brussels endorses it. He said this after the European Union (EU) opted to promote this limitation in areas affected by the housing crisis. The vice president also referred to the possibility of prohibiting the purchase of homes by non-residents, although the Commission's initiative does not cover this issue. "We are willing to analyze it if the door is opened," he explained.

The declassification of documents related to the Ceuta crisis by the Ministry of the Interior contains no report warning of a "high risk" of migrant arrivals in the Balearic Islands. Nevertheless, the PP has registered a written request in the Lower House demanding more data, and the Director General of Immigration, Manuel Pavón, has accused members of the Spanish government of "declassifying what interests them".

The ‘in solidarity with Ceuta’ demonstrations this week have heated up our days a little more, if that were even possible. To the intense humidity of this September has been added the acidic stench of the rancid mold of outdated Spanish nationalism. We Catalans have always had to receive, and still receive, lessons on how we must face our national liberation. Meanwhile, when Spain takes off the mask of the slaughtered lamb, the wolf of fascism soon peeks out.

One of the main talents that serve to succeed in politics is the gift of timing. One can study, have a broad knowledge of society, be loaded with good intentions, want to change the world... Nothing like being in the right place at the right moment. And the Popular Party knows that at the current moment, the place is Ceuta. Some go there, like a good part of the Spanish government, the president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, and the leader of Vox, Santiago Abascal. Others have received the president of the autonomous city, like Marga Prohens and Felipe VI. But the majority settles for a kind of spiritual presence and manifests their solidarity with the citizens of Ceuta, as if that served to fix a deep conflict, with multiple edges and complicated, which the Spanish political class has dedicated itself to simplifying and reducing to the absurd.

The President of the Government, Marga Prohens, has shown "deep concern" after the head of the Spanish executive, Pedro Sánchez, claimed in the Congress of Deputies that he had a report that warned of a high risk of irregular migrant arrivals to the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands. In an urgent appearance, Prohens has accused the socialist of having hidden this information when they met "for an hour" at the Consolat last July 29th. "Why is this information being hidden from us?", she asked herself. She has also demanded that the Spanish government state what measures it has taken to curb this risk of arrivals. "We want to think that the government of Spain has not left this report on a table or in a drawer", she continued: "We are talking about the safety of our autonomous community".

The President of the Government, Marga Prohens, has demanded explanations from Pedro Sánchez for having stated, during his appearance at the Congress of Deputies, that he received reports from the National Police regarding a risk of migrant arrivals on the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands.

"Holy cow! What are we doing here?". This was the reaction of some of the members of the Palma Municipal Music Band of Palma when, a few minutes before the start of the event in defense of Ceuta, they saw the atmosphere and heard the shouts against the Spanish government and Pedro Sánchez. One of the musicians explains that the ensemble had been requested by the mayor, Jaime Martínez, and that they approached it like any other institutional act. "But one thing is to be with the people of Ceuta and another is to want to oust a government", he summarizes.

Thousands of people gathered this Wednesday at the Plaça de Cort in Palma in an event called by the mayor of Palma, Jaime Martínez, in solidarity with Ceuta. The event, which took place at the Plaça de Cort coinciding with Ceuta Day, turned into a cry against the Spanish government with "Pedro Sánchez, son of a bitch" (in Spanish) and "Pedro Sánchez, resignation" as leitmotifs. Among the attendees, constant shouts and insults were heard against the head of the Spanish executive, while numerous participants displayed Spanish flags, some of them Francoist. The demonstration began at 8 p.m. and was called within the framework of the mobilizations in support of Ceuta held throughout the State. According to the Local Police figures, 19,000 people participated, while the National Police point out that there were 8,000.

The President of the Government, Marga Prohens, joins the PP's state war against Pedro Sánchez. In a media briefing, she encouraged the citizens of the Balearic Islands to participate in the demonstration called for this Wednesday in support of Ceuta, and accused the Spanish government of "hiding information" about the massive entry of migrants into the autonomous city.

The Government has once again challenged the distribution of minor migrants from the Canary Islands promoted by the Spanish executive. This is a new challenge presented by the Executive as part of its opposition to this process. In March 2025, it appealed to the Constitutional Court the reform of the Immigration Law that allows mandatory distribution. The same summer, it took the royal decree regulating the distribution protocol to the Supreme Court (and it was admitted for processing), and in September it challenged the royal decree that set 406 places as the ordinary capacity for the Balearic Islands. It has also attempted to stop at least three specific transfers of minors to the Islands before the Court of First Instance of Las Palmas. Now, the Executive has gone to the Supreme Court against the royal decree that raises the capacity of the Islands to 434 places.

The neo-fascist group Identitas has joined the call for support for Ceuta that the Balearic PP and the mayor of Palma, Jaime Martínez, have promoted for Wednesday, September 2, at 8 p.m. in Plaça de Cort. The far-right collective has circulated through its social networks a call to participate in the concentration with the message in Spanish 'Defend Spain! All with Ceuta and Melilla' and has asked its followers to 'spread it and attend' the event.
