However, in my opinion, this debate is neither serious nor objective. Airport management is a complex issue that cannot be analyzed or addressed based on prejudice or simplistic assumptions.

A phenomenon that repeats itself every year, punctually, is Aena's disregard for its Mallorcan users. It becomes apparent right after the end of the tourist season: not the following day, because the season closes on October 31st, and the next day is All Saints' Day, a public holiday. But on the first business day after the airport is left without tourists (though this situation is becoming less frequent), the construction work begins, bringing with it inconveniences and disruptions for users. But if these users are residents, locals, native inhabitants, what does this inconvenience and disruption matter? None whatsoever, on the contrary: the construction work aims to improve the airport facilities, and if you have any doubts, this is repeated—in Spanish and English, never in Catalan—on signs you'll find all along your route, both in departures and arrivals. We are working to improve the airport. It should be remembered that the absence of signage in Catalan goes against the Law of Linguistic Normalization and the Statute of Autonomy, and is unacceptable in a public place such as the airport grounds.

The Balearic Islands Transport (TIB) buses connecting the Calvià, Inca, Manacor, Sa Pobla, Alcúdia, Llucmajor, and Campos area with Son Sant Joan Airport will offer a regular service year-round, even during the off-season, as announced this Thursday by the Minister of Housing, Mobility, and Territory, José Luis Mat. This service will begin this Saturday on lines A11 (Camp de Mar-Airport), A33 (from the Port of Alcúdia), A43 (Manacor), and A51 (Campos). Buses will run every hour to every hour and 1 hour and 15 minutes, depending on the line. The first buses will depart between 4:15 and 4:40 a.m. for the airport, and the last buses will leave Son Sant Joan between 10:30 and 11:40 p.m. The four lines will have an average of between 26 and 38 daily trips. Mateo emphasized that this is the first time a regular service has been offered on the four Aerotib bus lines during the off-season and from Monday to Sunday. The objective of this initiative is to "respond to the demand of citizens" and guarantee connectivity between the main population centers of Mallorca and the airport. According to the manager of the Mallorca Transport Consortium (CTM), Luisa Serra, the Aerotib service had not been offered during the off-season in the last five years, and in the three years prior, from 2017 to 2019, it was offered with a maximum of eight trips per day. These changes have been made possible thanks to the modification of the concessions of the bus service. With the change in the three contracts, the service offering goes from 16.5 million kilometers (included in the contracts initiated in 2021) to 24.6 million annually in the modification, which represents an increase of almost 50% of the service initially planned.

The eco-sovereignty movement will defend a bill this Tuesday in plenary session to demand that airport authority be transferred to the government. This is a way to limit Aena, the commercial company that manages them, after receiving 15.9 million visitors to 18.7 million between 2014 and 2024, according to data from the INE (National Institute of Statistics and Census). The law has the approval of the PP, at least to allow its processing, while the PSIB (Spanish Socialist Workers' Party) is hesitant.

"We have workers with many bites all over the place. It's shameful," he reiterated. Along the same lines, he added that passengers, "when they board, they see fireflies running around." "The airport is the gateway for tourism to the Islands. We're the first face they see, and the service isn't very good," he insisted.

Balearic Islands Minister José Negreira warned that "if the government and Aena do not contact the workers within a week," he announced that they will bring out a hundred cars they have already prepared and begin circling the roundabout with the goal of ensuring that "no one gets through." handling They protested at the airport over the contracts with companies paid by Aena. "They give them 10-hour contracts, and as the season progresses, they increase them and they add a lot of overtime," explained José García, secretary of the Federation of Services, Mobility and Transport of the UGT (General Workers' Union), . "They treat the permanent, discontinuous workers as if they were temporary staff," the workers denounced. "We want them to hire staff and provide us with 100% of the minimum services," Negreira insisted.
