It is clear that like any good ‘show’, the plenary session has politically boring and administrative procedural moments; but it has others, especially when it comes to the turn of requests and questions, where the emotion skyrockets (and often goes crazy).

Mayor Miquel Oliver met with the Minister of Health, Manuela García Romero, to demand solutions to a healthcare situation he describes as "unsustainable" across the Levante region. The meeting comes after the Ministry of Health rejected the plot of land allocated in 2022 for the new facility, following a report from the Water Resources Department that places it in an area of preferential water flow. According to the City Council, this decision adds "an unacceptable delay" to a facility considered crucial for managing population growth and alleviating pressure on healthcare services.

Mayor Miquel Oliver expressed the municipal government's "deep surprise and unease" at a decision that comes late and, he claims, contradicts the criteria and reports that had previously supported the project. The Government's rejection was communicated following an unfavorable report from the Directorate General of Water Resources, which concluded that the plot on Paseo del Ferrocarril – ceded in 2022 – is located in a preferential water flow zone, thus preventing the continuation of the process. However, the City Council points out that both the Ministry of Health and the Directorate General of Water Resources had previously issued favorable reports, in addition to the flood risk study included in the current General Plan.

After being closed for almost five years by court order while the bankruptcy proceedings and various lawsuits filed by the concessionaire against the City Council were resolved, the facility will be back under the control of the local administration within 15 days. This was announced on Monday by the head of the City Council's sports department, Llorenç Mesquida, who confirmed that the Council will have to pay €64,696.57 to activate the reversion agreement, at which point the process will begin for Manacor to regain ownership. "Today is an important day. We are very pleased to have signed the agreement." Now, for the next few days, an external company will conduct an audit to determine the exact condition of both the building and the equipment in order to issue a report outlining improvements, renovations, and costs. This will be useful for the future concession that the City Council will put out to tender again "as soon as possible," which will include any renovations to be amortized within an agreed-upon timeframe. Mesquida also confirmed that the Manacor municipal swimming pool will reopen in 2026. "The intention is to put the concession out to tender so that the procedures allow us to open this year," although everything suggests it will be after summer and ready to start the autumn-winter season. The concession for the municipal swimming pool was awarded in 1997 for a period of 30 years, with the construction and operation of the facilities the responsibility of the concessionary company Esquitxos de Blavor SL. The works were completed in 1998, and for more than two decades, the pool served the community. Until 2021, when, after several disagreements between the City Council and the concessionaire for the maintenance of the facility, Esquitxos filed for bankruptcy and closed the swimming pools.

The Manacor City Council has already decided what name it will give to the space, which in the late 1960s ceased to be the municipal cemetery (which was definitively moved to the current Son Coletes location) to become a recreational area for everyone, where outdoor swimming pools and a multi-purpose building were later built in 1985. From now on, it will be called the Rector's Garden. This decision was made by the City Council, which consulted several experts in toponymy to try to find the original name of the space according to existing documentation. This will also be the name that will appear on the sign at the new entrance that will be built to replace the one that was recently demolished. A self-weathering steel sheet will be used, into which the letters will be cut to ensure they are clearly visible from the outside and will be illuminated at night.

The Sant Antoni 2026 festivities in Manacor come with a clear message: firecrackers, rockets, and strings of firecrackers will be prohibited without municipal authorization. The City Council has decided to tighten controls on pyrotechnics in order to reduce risks, avoid disturbances, and ensure the smooth running of the bonfires and other traditional events. According to the Council, any use of unauthorized pyrotechnic devices will be subject to immediate intervention by the Local Police, who may remove and impound the material if they deem it a danger to people or property or disrupts public order. The measure aims to curb practices that, year after year, generate incidents, excessive noise, and dangerous situations in areas with large crowds. The City Council frames the decision within a broader package of regulations that seek to reconcile the festivities with residents' need for rest and safety, especially on the eve of January 16th, the day with the highest attendance and participation. Limited seating area and extended hours

Meanwhile, the City Council has precisely defined the horse parade route, which will only be authorized on January 16th, between 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM, with a route agreed upon with the Local Police and police escort. Outside of these hours, the parade will be prohibited and may be subject to fines. Regarding economic activity, bars, restaurants, and terraces may remain open until 5:00 AM on the 17th, in accordance with the current ordinance, but the prohibition of live music in public spaces and the installation of loudspeakers or sound equipment outside establishments is reiterated. A call to celebrate respectfully.

The City Council has appealed to citizens' sense of responsibility to ensure participatory yet respectful festivities, and has invited businesses to close from 3:00 PM on the 16th and consider this a recoverable holiday, to facilitate attendance at the most emblematic events such as the procession of the devils, Compline, and bonfires. With these measures, Manacor aims for a safer, more orderly Sant Antoni celebration that respects residents' right to rest, where tradition and celebration can be enjoyed without risks or excesses.

The action was taken after the Local Police's Coastal Territorial Unit reported the rockfall to the Urban Planning and Housing Department. A subsequent technical inspection confirmed that the rockfall may have been related to the recent heavy rains. Following the inspection, municipal technical services determined that the initial closure was insufficient and ordered the installation of temporary construction barriers to reinforce the safety of the affected area. The City Council has also requested that the Directorate General of Coasts and Coastline of the Government of the Balearic Islands visit and inspect the site of the incident in order to establish the appropriate measures to avoid risks to the public and prevent future landslides. The Council has asked the public to respect the temporary closure and safety instructions until definitive actions are determined.

Jóvenes por Mallorca (Youth for Mallorca), the organizing body, announced today in the Manacor cloister that the 2026 edition will take place on the weekend of April 11th and 12th in Na Molla Park. "For three decades, Acampallengua has established itself in the collective consciousness as a national tool that is more than a festival, more than a camping trip, and more than a concert; it is the place to experience the Mallorca we desire. A commitment that is both activist, festive, and critical," stated Maria Maians, coordinator of Jóvenes por Mallorca. The announcement was made at a joint press conference with the Manacor City Council, which highlighted its institutional support for an event that is now firmly established on Mallorca's cultural and activist calendar. As the mayor of Manacor, Miquel Oliver, recalled, "Back in 2012, Manacor hosted Acampallengua at a crucial moment, during José Ramón Bauzá's term; now that the putrid winds of the far right are returning with attacks on our language and culture, we must once again demand the use of our language, which is not guaranteed." Maians celebrated Acampallengua's return to Manacor in 2026, after its last appearance in 2012: "We are very happy to be able to hold Acampallengua in such a vibrant municipality, one that lives and breathes culture and is committed to the language." He also highlighted that Manacor "has a very active network of associations, with which Acampallengua aims to join forces and build spaces for culture and advocacy together." A strong recovery

The first edition of Acampallengua was held in 1997 in Inca. It was held continuously, alternating with Correllengua, until 2012, the year it moved to Manacor. After a decade-long hiatus, it returned in 2023 with the Sa Pobla edition, which welcomed over 6,000 attendees and featured Antònia Font as the headliner. Last year, the festival took place in Felanitx, with a confirmed edition featuring more than 30 activities and a massive concert in the Torre municipal park, one of Mallorca's largest concert venues.
