About 200 people gathered this Wednesday evening in Plaça de Cort to denounce what they consider an "arbitrary" action by the Palma City Council after the Consistory did not authorize the Sopar a la Llesca planned within the program of the Canamunt 2026 festivities.

The Palma City Council assures that it has "at no time disavowed" the Sopar a la Llesca, included in the Canamunt Festivals 2026 program because, two days before the event, it had not yet been decreed, and justifies the decision not to authorize the occupation of Plaça de Cort due to the high number of activities that this space has hosted this year.

The Brunzit collective, the L'Elèctrica and La Fonera Ateneus, and the Canamunt neighborhood association have called for a protest gathering this Wednesday at 8 p.m. in Plaça de Cort to protest against Palma City Council's decision not to authorize the 'Sopar a la Llesca' (Dinner on the Slice) planned for this space as part of the Canamunt 2026 Festival program. The call comes after the controversy generated by the denial of the permit and the criticism from the organizing entities regarding municipal management.

The Canamunt Self-Managed Festivals return this July in the full aftermath of the controversy between Cort and Orgull Llonguet. Without public subsidies and funded exclusively by the neighbors, they claim the community model with a program that combines culture, coexistence, and defense of the neighborhood. The program will extend until July 22 with popular dinners, open-air cinema, children's activities, music, and the traditional Canamuntiades, with the aim of recovering public space and strengthening the neighborhood's identity in the face of real estate pressure and gentrification.

The Palma City Council has responded today to the announcement by Orgull Llonguet regarding the suspension of the organization of Canamunt and Canavall and has assured that it has not modified its support for the festival. The City Council states that, as every year, the management of the festival is carried out through a public call in which the entity presents its proposals, among which the Canamunt and Canavall proposal was usually included.

Orgull Llonguet will not organize this year the Canamunt and Canavall festival. The entity assures that it has made the decision after noting the ever-increasing difficulties in keeping the project alive and argues that it needs to "take a step back in order to move forward". This cancellation occurs just after the latest controversy of the Palma City Council with the organization of Pride and another resounding cancellation, that of the Flexas bar party in the Parc de la Mar.

The Canamunt and Canavall water fight has once again filled the streets of Palma with festivities. Two opposing groups and hundreds of participants armed with water pistols have recreated the ancient disputes, now transformed into a water-soaked spectacle in the Parc de la Mar.

More than 200 Palma residents gathered last Wednesday in the iconic Plaça d'en Coll to play tricks and dine together outdoors. The event, organized by the Canamunt residents' association and the Brunzit platform, began around 7:00 p.m. with a round of tricks, in which those familiar with the rules of the card game explained them to those who didn't.
