Llonguet Pride suspends Canamunt and Canavall: "We lay down our arms, but never the fight"

PalmaOrgull Llonguet will not organize this year the Canamunt and Canavall festival. The entity assures that it has made the decision after noting the ever-increasing difficulties in keeping the project alive and argues that it needs to "take a step back in order to move forward". This cancellation occurs just after the latest controversy of the Palma City Council with the organization of Pride and another resounding cancellation, that of the Flexas bar party in the Parc de la Mar.

The association explained this Monday on social networks that it launched the festival in 2015 with the aim of "creating a community in the City" and recovering a little-known part of Palma's history. Orgull Llonguet claims that Canamunt and Canavall "is not a water fight", but a celebration based on the history of the two ancient factions of the city, conceived to foster participation, coexistence, and a sense of belonging.

The entity explains that three elements are essential to maintain the festival: an involved community, economic resources, and the support of the Palma City Council. According to its complaint, these three factors have been weakening in recent years. "It is difficult to have a community when we llonguets can no longer afford to live in Palma," the statement points out, which also laments the difficulty of finding volunteers and criticizes that institutions are "more concerned with selling the city than with supporting associations that create fabric," such as "neighborhood associations, demon groups, Ben Amics, and the Flexas bar."

For this reason, Orgull Llonguet considers that the festival has been losing its essence to the point where it no longer represents them. The association assures that the organization of Canamunt and Canavall has become "an obstacle race" that has ended up exhausting the initiators of the initiative.

Despite this year's suspension, the entity insists that the decision is not a final one. The objective, they explain, is to stop to rethink the project, reorganize, and return with strength in the future.
