The Bombers de Mallorca and the Balearic Institute of Nature (Ibanat) extinguished this Saturday a forest fire declared in the Son Catlar area, in the municipality of Campos.

Campos will once again become a showcase for Mallorcan craftsmanship with the celebration of the III Spring Artisan Fair, which will take place on Sunday, May 10th on Convent street, within the framework of the municipality's traditional May Fair.

The driver of the tractor that caused the death of a 29-year-old motorcyclist on July 12 on the road between Campos and Santanyí was driving under the influence of drugs and without adequate lighting to drive at night.

Douae El Mojahidi is 19 years old, grew up in Campos, and identifies as Muslim, feminist, and Catalan nationalist. Perhaps having lived between different cultures and identities, even though she didn't choose it, has given her a maturity and an ability to analyze the world that is unusual for her age. Her story is reminiscent of the "three rebellious turns" that Maria Mercè Marçal spoke of in her famous poem. When asked where she's from, she doesn't have a simple answer. Her identity shifts between places, languages, and cultures: the Amazigh of her family and the Mallorcan of the street. She was born in Algeciras, but grew up in Mallorca, in Campos, where she has spent her entire life. "When people ask me where we're from, I don't have a single answer," she explains. "I was born in Andalusia, but I've lived my whole life in Mallorca. I learned to speak Catalan here, my friends are here, I went to high school here… basically, I grew up here."

Sopa de Cabra, one of the pioneering and most important bands in the history of Catalan rock, will perform in Campos on August 7th to celebrate their 40th anniversary. The group will share the stage with Aero.Sol, who are also celebrating their 25th anniversary this year. The event will take place in the parking lot of the town's municipal sports field, starting at 10 pm.

The municipality of Campos will have a mobile vehicle inspection station (ITV) starting mid-year, capable of carrying out around 5,000 inspections per month, with the aim of reducing the saturation of stations in the rural areas of the island. The President of the Council of Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, and the Mayor of Campos, Francisca Porquer, signed an agreement this Monday whereby the City Council grants the island institution free use of a 12,700-square-meter municipal plot of land to install the new station. The transfer will have an initial duration of four years, renewable. Some of these buildings were located on rural land or land not zoned for industrial use, in violation of municipal and regional urban planning regulations. Even so, they remained open for years without the Campos Town Council taking any action to regulate the situation. For this reason, the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office filed a lawsuit after studying the case for more than a year and finding "indications of a crime." Now, the courts will try to determine if a scheme actually existed and, above all, if Campos turned a blind eye instead of processing the corresponding complaints regarding the commercial use of infrastructure on rural land. The case reached the Prosecutor's Office from the Balearic Islands Office for the Prevention and Fight against Corruption (OAIB), which had been investigating it since 2022. as explained by the ARA BalearesIn a damning report, the OAIB (Balearic Islands Office for the Administration of Urban Planning) asserted that the Campos Town Council had failed to act and had allowed the proliferation of rural buildings at the town's entrance, operating as commercial establishments—an activity specifically prohibited by regulations. At least 18 establishments were operating without authorization, and two workshops had carried out illegal expansions. However, previous municipal inspections indicated, apparently falsely according to the OAIB, that these were warehouses with no commercial activity, a contradiction that raised suspicions of document forgery and urban planning malfeasance. When the case came to light, all eyes turned to Sebastià Sureda, the Campos Town Council's Urban Planning Councilor between 2015 and 2019, who had to resign as the Government's Director General of Emergencies when the scandal broke—at least for the time being. The Office linked him to the scheme to allow or fail to prevent the ships from operating without a license. To justify his inaction, l'Campos Town Hall admitted that it had consented These practices somehow. The Anti-Corruption Office requested information from several municipal technicians and former councilors, but, for the moment, the only person formally under investigation is a local police officer from Campos.

The worker at a nursing home in Campos who was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting four female colleagues and a resident has been released. The Balearic Islands Transport (TIB) buses connecting the Calvià, Inca, Manacor, Sa Pobla, Alcúdia, Llucmajor, and Campos area with Son Sant Joan Airport will offer a regular service year-round, even during the off-season, as announced this Thursday by the Minister of Housing, Mobility, and Territory, José Luis Mat. This service will begin this Saturday on lines A11 (Camp de Mar-Airport), A33 (from the Port of Alcúdia), A43 (Manacor), and A51 (Campos). Buses will run every hour to every hour and 1 hour and 15 minutes, depending on the line. The first buses will depart between 4:15 and 4:40 a.m. for the airport, and the last buses will leave Son Sant Joan between 10:30 and 11:40 p.m. The four lines will have an average of between 26 and 38 daily trips. Mateo emphasized that this is the first time a regular service has been offered on the four Aerotib bus lines during the off-season and from Monday to Sunday. The objective of this initiative is to "respond to the demand of citizens" and guarantee connectivity between the main population centers of Mallorca and the airport. According to the manager of the Mallorca Transport Consortium (CTM), Luisa Serra, the Aerotib service had not been offered during the off-season in the last five years, and in the three years prior, from 2017 to 2019, it was offered with a maximum of eight trips per day. These changes have been made possible thanks to the modification of the concessions of the bus service. With the change in the three contracts, the service offering goes from 16.5 million kilometers (included in the contracts initiated in 2021) to 24.6 million annually in the modification, which represents an increase of almost 50% of the service initially planned.
