His favorite toy has always been a soccer ball. In fact, soccer is his great passion. And Barça. At some point, he "dreamed of being a soccer player." Until he was almost an adult, he played for different teams, such as Sallista, Constancia, and Murer. As a teenager, he even refereed. He shares the name (uncommon in the Canary Islands) of his godfather from Ciudad Real, where his father is from, Inocente Moreno. The eco-sovereignist party considers this decision "a democratic setback" and an attack on the dignity of the victims of Francoist repression. In light of this, the party emphasized the role of the municipal ordinance approved in Inca, promoted by the party itself, as a key tool for continuing to defend democratic values. The legislation establishes the framework for the City Council to recognize and provide reparations to the victims of Francoism, remove symbols of the dictatorship, preserve memorial sites, and promote educational and historical outreach activities. The ordinance also enabled the creation of the Municipal Council for Democratic Memory, a pioneering body in the Balearic Islands with the participation of memorial and social organizations.

This initiative follows the approval of the Municipal Ordinance on Democratic Memory, which establishes the regulatory framework for promoting public policies of truth, justice, reparation, and guarantees of non-repetition. The inaugural meeting took place on February 24, a date laden with symbolism, coinciding with the anniversary of the execution of former Inca mayor Antoni Mateu Ferrer. The commemoration included historical context provided by the city's official chronicler, Miquel Pieras, who read Mateu Ferrer's farewell letter written before his execution, a particularly moving moment that served to highlight the human dimension of the repression and the need to preserve collective memory.

The meeting was attended by members of the hospital's management team, led by the manager, Xisco Ferrer, as well as the Primary Care Manager for Mallorca, Carlos Raduán, and the Healthcare Director of the Balearic Islands Health Service, Raúl Lara. Mayors and councilors from municipalities such as Alcúdia, Inca, Sa Pobla, Pollensa, Santa Margalida, Sineu, Búger, Campanet, Llubí, Sencelles, Costitx, and Lloret, among others, also attended. During the session, the main lines of the 2025-2030 strategic plan and the objectives set for 2026 were presented, in addition to the release of the 2025 healthcare report. Last year, the center recorded 142,305 outpatient visits and 80,123 inpatient visits. Furthermore, 5,776 surgical procedures were performed, along with nearly 109,000 radiological tests, 5,473 dialysis sessions, almost 90,000 physiotherapy sessions, and 824 medical reports. Management praised the work of the approximately 1,250 professionals on staff and highlighted some recently implemented improvements, such as the introduction of free television and telephone service in all rooms, the milestone of performing the first endoscopic lumbar spine surgeries, and technological upgrades in various areas. The hospital serves a population of 146,575 and has 181 inpatient beds, 81 consulting rooms and offices, six operating theaters, and eight beds for critical care patients. The annual meeting of the citizen participation committee thus consolidates a space for direct communication between the healthcare center and the area it serves.

The prosecutor asserted in the first session that "there is more than enough evidence for a conviction" and maintained that there is no dispute that the accused caused the victim's death. The hearing began after 1 p.m., following the selection of the jury, which will determine the guilt or innocence of both the homeowner, accused of homicide, and the other three men, charged with attempted robbery. The prosecution is requesting a 15-year prison sentence for the homeowner and 11 months for each of the three assailants. It is also seeking approximately €157,000 in compensation for the victim's family. During the preliminary hearing and the reading of the initial reports, the prosecutor emphasized that "the fact that the accused killed a person is not in dispute" and that the evidence presented supports a conviction. The defense attorneys for the mother, sister, and father of the deceased young man went further, arguing that the events constitute not manslaughter, but murder, based on two aggravating circumstances: surprise and cruelty. They argued that the victim was attacked from behind and received "a large number of stab wounds" until he bled to death. Among them were two men from Mallorca, Pau Ferrer Madariaga and Josep Rotger Canals. Information is only available about the former. Born in Inca in 1896, Ferrer entered the Salamanca Military Academy at the age of 16 and in 1916 was assigned to Melilla, which had been part of the Spanish protectorate of Morocco since 1912. In 1936, the man from Inca was commander of the Ceuta Light Infantry Battalion. He closely followed the new course that the Second Republic took in February with the victory of the Popular Front. In Madrid, tensions began to rise on July 13 with the assassination of the monarchist deputy José Calvo Sotelo. Former Minister of Finance during the dictatorship of Primo de Rivera (1923-1930), Calvo Sotelo was one of the most combative right-wing leaders against the new government of Manuel Azaña. He was assassinated in revenge for the death the day before of Lieutenant José del Castillo, a well-known socialist, at the hands of far-right gunmen. Four days later, everything exploded.

City Hall sources emphasized that this consolidates public finances as a fundamental instrument for continuing to "drive progress, well-being, and modernization of the city." Inca's mayor, Virgilio Moreno, stated that the budget is "realistic, responsible, and committed to the people," reinforcing "what works and promoting projects that will define the city's future." The budget allocation is as follows: 44.79% for essential services—including cleaning, security, water, and street lighting—10.66% for social services, 14.36% for education, culture, and sports, 19% for general services and technical support, and almost €6 million for economic development.

https://en.arabalears.cat/opinion/care-to-diversify_129_5564843.html

A few days ago, the Inca City Council presented the results of a study that I had the honor of coordinating through the Intercoopera Foundation. Its objective was to measure the weight of the social economy within the overall economic and labor activity of the capital of the Raiguer region. It also aimed to highlight that, in addition to caring for the environment and people, social economy initiatives contribute significantly to the local economy, even if they do so discreetly, quietly, but with a strong commitment to the community in which they operate. One of the shortcomings of this sector, which lacks a specific economic activity code (CNAE) because it can operate across many different economic sectors, is the lack of real and effective data on its impact on island society. Therefore, the research we conducted in Inca, as a pilot project, provides us with insights not only into what the administrations should be doing regarding statistical information and data availability to understand the true situation. It also indicates that there is much more to it than we could have imagined, even though there is no major plan or public policy to promote it. In fact, at the regional level, neither the first Master Plan for the Social Economy, approved in 2018, nor the current one, seems to be a priority for either the previous or current government, especially considering their funding and available administrative resources, which are entirely insufficient to effectively boost the sector, as other regions have done.

This report challenges common perceptions about the islands' economic drivers and demonstrates the importance of a sector centered on the collective interests of its citizens. In Inca, the social economy generates 12.37% of the municipality's annual wealth, amounting to €58.5 million annually. 69% of the municipality's organizations focus their activities on care and support for people in vulnerable situations. In terms of employment, this sector represents 13.75%, with 1,170 employees. These employment figures place the social economy on par with construction and far ahead of sectors like retail and hospitality. The report notes that it "is five times the size of the traditional footwear industry."

The initiative, promoted by the Verbena de Inca cultural association, aims to revitalize and make this emblematic tradition more participatory. Until now, the Cossiers dance was only performed inside the church, but with the arrival of Bogiot—a mischievous farmer who embodies the more playful and earthly side of the town—the dance will now take to the streets. The new demon made his first appearance this Sunday during the festival of Santa María la Mayor, patron saint of Inca, amidst bonfires, demons, and folk music. The next dance of the Cossiers and the Demoni Bogiot will be on Easter Sunday.
