A 17-year-old girl has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Mateu Orfila hospital after suffering an accident during the Sant Bartomeu de Ferreries festivities. The minor was hit by a horse and suffered a traumatic brain injury.

A private party organized by a bar in Biniaraix gathered numerous people in the village square during the Patron Saint's festival, coinciding with the start of the festivities of the Mare de Déu d'Agost. The activity coincided with the inaugural speech, by Jaume Albertí, and caused the square to be practically full of people and tables when the neighbors and municipal representatives came out of mass at the town's church.

It is public and notorious: Mayor Martínez's team governs against the citizens. It considers Palma a stage-city, a money-making machine, a soulless showcase designed to attract investors (read 'predatory speculators') where natives are superfluous. Success is measured by the number of visitors, by the number of expats who do us the honor of buying or renting our homes at the price of young Canary Islanders, by pharaonic projects that put Palma on the map (as if it weren't already there), by multinationals opening franchises or by gentrifying works 'to improve the lives of neighbors' which only cause demographic substitution. Palma as a large, gray, soulless theme park, a consumer product suitable for those who can afford it.The current government of Cort has taken another step and has declared war on citizen participation. It is not enough for them that we are expelled from homes, shops, bars, or even public spaces; now they also attack what scares them the most: a vibrant and loved city. A vibrant city is not defined by the number of terraces occupying a square or the volume of business it generates. It is defined by its organized inhabitants, popular initiatives, neighborhood solidarity, and the capacity to weave a collective network. And they do not want this in any way, because an articulated, critical, and connected citizenry is a citizenry that loves and defends its city and its inhabitants, which organizes to defend the right to housing, which denounces uncontrolled tourism, which demands dignified public spaces, and which questions municipal priorities. An atomized population, where each individual relates to the city only as a consumer, is much easier to manage and ignore. The asphyxiating situation currently experienced by most popular entities or movements in our city, hidden behind increasingly absurd and insulting bureaucratic excuses, is not the result of simple inefficiency, but rather part of a strategy to tire out, discourage, and deactivate the associative fabric of Palma, which manifests itself on three clearly identifiable fronts. First of all, we find administrative obstacles. Organizing a popular festival, an event in a public space, or a neighborhood dinner has become an odyssey of impossible procedures, unattainable technical requirements, and requests that get trapped in administrative silence. Meanwhile, concessions for large private (or privatized) events are resolved with surprising agility. How lucky they are not sent from one department to another or that coordination between areas never fails to resolve their requests!Secondly, we are witnessing a rigorous application of restrictive regulations that operates with a double standard. The same administration that is inflexible with the schedules of a self-managed party or with posters hung by a neighborhood association is the one that looks the other way in the face of the saturation of public space by the private sector. The street, which should be the meeting place for the community, is privatized and rented to the highest bidder, while neighborhood life is treated as a nuisance.The third front consists of the appropriation of popular festivals. The City Council systematically boycotts and obstructs them until it manages to make the promoters want to desist. Then it positions itself as a savior and proceeds to finance and manage them, transforming a popular initiative into another showcase event, focused on private business and disconnected from the associative fabric. When the festival ceases to belong to the neighborhood to become the property of an event management company, the city loses an essential part of its soul. And we still have to thank the City Council for stealing it from us.It's time to claim the right to the city, to popular festivals and to the occupation of public space. The neighborhood network and collective solidarity are the only shield we have left to prevent Palma from definitively becoming an empty, gray, and sad theme park.

The patron saint's festivals of Santa Maria del Camí have been marked by a succession of incidents that have generated strong concern in the municipality. The assaults reported during Friday's celebration against the PD Lluca duo and Santa Servera Màrtir, a second attack reported on Saturday against a person linked to the Antifascist Coordinator, and the appearance of neo-Nazi graffiti on two homes have opened a police investigation and provoked reactions from the Town Hall and various social groups.

The Brunzit collective, the L'Elèctrica and La Fonera Ateneus, and the Canamunt neighborhood association have called for a protest gathering this Wednesday at 8 p.m. in Plaça de Cort to protest against Palma City Council's decision not to authorize the 'Sopar a la Llesca' (Dinner on the Slice) planned for this space as part of the Canamunt 2026 Festival program. The call comes after the controversy generated by the denial of the permit and the criticism from the organizing entities regarding municipal management.

The Canamunt Self-Managed Festivals return this July in the full aftermath of the controversy between Cort and Orgull Llonguet. Without public subsidies and funded exclusively by the neighbors, they claim the community model with a program that combines culture, coexistence, and defense of the neighborhood. The program will extend until July 22 with popular dinners, open-air cinema, children's activities, music, and the traditional Canamuntiades, with the aim of recovering public space and strengthening the neighborhood's identity in the face of real estate pressure and gentrification.

To speak of El Porrón bar in Manacor (opened in 1960) is to speak of a true local institution. It was a pioneering café in the creation of the city's first bonfires, in the mid-60s, and with figures in 1968, with a clear Valencian influence imported during the early years of tourism. Although, to tell the whole truth, El Porrón was a parade bar, one of the first establishments outside the town center, near the private hospital that operated until the end of the 70s and is now a nursing home.

The San Sebastián festivities will once again transform Palma into a giant open-air stage. Indie band Crystal Fighters will headline the first major concert of the celebrations on January 16th in Plaça d'Espanya, kicking off a musical program that combines internationally renowned names with a strong commitment to Mallorcan talent. This year's lineup includes artists and bands such as José de Rico, Guille & The Waves, Pitxorines, Toque de Llamada, Pelo de Gallo, Burning, Tennessee, and Héroes Tribut Band, among others, spread across different squares throughout the city and encompassing a variety of musical styles. For almost two decades, however, the gastronomy and traditions surrounding All Saints' Day have been declining in favor of Halloween, the quintessential American holiday imported from Ireland. Year after year, this is a topic of debate and conversation, as there is a perception that the local festival is being lost while the foreign one is gaining ground. According to the owner of Las Palmeras, a flower shop with 40 years of experience in Palma, All Saints' Day remains one of the most important campaigns of the year for florists, although they do perceive a change in customs, especially among younger generations.

Bunyola is an important part of the history of contemporary theatre in the Canary Islands, whether as the Bunyola Theatre Company or La Lluna Teatre, the group that revolutionised, or at least shook up, the local dramatic scene in 1980. Antoni Maria Thomàs, along with Francesc Aguiló, Gabriel Gamundí, and the Buñuelos Miquel Morro and Rafel Ramis were responsible for allowing us to enjoy such emblematic pieces as Jacques and his master, The Mandrake and Waiting for Godot, among others. A circumstance that made the theater, now dedicated to Rafel Ramis, somewhat orphaned, almost until recently, when the group of members of the Bunyola Theater were the protagonists of the opening speech of the Sant Mateu festivities. Some began to fan the embers of which there were few sparks left, although it seems that it has been the spark of tradition that has rekindled in a beautiful way.
