In democracies, governments begin to fall the day they decide to send the police to beat citizens. They don't fall that same day, nor the next, but when they make this colossal mistake, this unacceptable mistake, they are badly wounded. Beating citizens when they protest peacefully and legitimately is a sign of authoritarianism, but also of weakness. Of not knowing how to govern.
