PalmaPalma's municipal housing plan takes a new step forward. The Palma Governing Board approved this Wednesday the constitution of the Compensation Board for the Strategic Residential Project (PRE) of Son Puigdorfila, an area where the construction of up to 623 homes is planned, 320 of which will have some degree of protection. The agreement allows for progress in the project's processing, which began in March with the final approval of the statutes and the operating bases of the Compensation Board.

The Son Puigdorfila project is part of the housing plan, which provides for the construction of about 1,000 homes in two phases. The first has already begun with the Son Ferragut and Camp Redó projects. This July, the mayor of Palma, Jaime Martínez, laid the first stone of a project for 80 limited-price homes (VPL) in Son Ferragut. In addition, this phase provides for the construction of 87 VPL in Camp Redó, with a total of 167 homes.

The second phase of the plan provides for the construction of 807 more limited-price rental homes on various municipal plots. In addition to Son Puigdorfila, the projects will be distributed among Son Güells, Son Ximelis, Son Cladera Nord, Cas Pastors, Son Toells, Can Fontet, and Son Pardo.

Housing creation in Palma is immersed in a strong debate. The City Council wants to move forward with between 9,000 and 10,000 additional homes outside of strategic projects. Environmental organizations such as the GOB have requested that the processing of the Sustainable Water Management Plan (PGSA) be stopped, with which Jaime Martínez and his team intend to obtain the necessary technical justification for the construction of these homes. Cort defends the technical work done and ensures that the plan is designed to ensure that the city has enough water in the face of projected population growth.

Among the rest of the agreements adopted this Wednesday, Efe reports, the Governing Board has approved making a municipal plot of about 8,012 square meters located at number 1 of Son Peretó street available to the Government to make the future expansion of CEIPIEEM Son Serra possible.

The plot is qualified for educational facilities and the fact that it has been made available to the Ministry of Education and Universities responds to the request of this department to expand the current Public Integrated Center for Infant, Primary and Elementary Music Education.

The Governing Board has also approved the project to demolish the buildings attached to the old Palma prison, located at number 85 of Alfons el Magnànim street and which corresponded to the former staff quarters.

Another of the approved projects is the demolition of the building located at number 43 of Joan Miró avenue, declared in technical ruin, with a base bidding budget of 669,132 euros.

The disappearance of the property will allow for the execution of a new road that will connect Joan Miró avenue with Mediterrània square.

The Governing Board has also given the green light to the renovation of the children's play area of the Castella i Lleó park, in Son Rapinya, with an investment of 112,097 euros and an estimated execution period of 90 days.

Finally, the City Council has approved the installation of a new air conditioning and ventilation system at the Arxiduc neighborhood center, with a budget of 79,003 euros and a planned execution period of two months.
