The First Vice President and Minister of Economy, Finance and Innovation of the Government, Antoni Costa, admitted this Wednesday "some delays" in aid to economic sectors to deal with the crisis derived from the war in Ukraine. Costa met with economic and social agents affected by the price increases caused by the war to analyze the situation and propose measures to contain energy costs, the EFE agency reported. Precisely this Wednesday, it became known that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose to 5.1% in the Balearic Islands in September, compared to the same month last year. This is seven tenths higher than in August, with prices chaining five consecutive months of increases in the Islands. Transport led the increase, with 7.7% more than in September 2025. Restaurants and accommodation services show a price increase of 6.8%. Costa has described the rise in prices in the Balearic Islands as "worrying".
According to Costa, the package of measures that the Government approved on April 1st "is being developed" and the aid is "in different phases, depending on the sector involved". The vice president has acknowledged that some measures "are a little bit behind" and has pointed out that the cause of this situation is "the lack of European and state regulations". In this situation are the aids to the primary sector, for example, one of the most affected by the increase in fuel costs. "It is true, there are different phases. I am not saying that there are not some that have caused us some delay", he pointed out.
The Government approved half a year ago a decree law with which more than 160 million euros were mobilized to alleviate the economic effects of the war in Ukraine in the Balearic Islands. Of the total, 75 million were allocated to credit lines through the Reciprocal Guarantee Society ISBA. Another 36.7 million euros were to be direct aid for the sectors most affected by the increase in prices, with 13.5 million for the primary sector and 5 million for agricultural transformation. On the other hand, the Government decided that almost 10 million euros would be for transport aid and another 13.5 for the industry.
Regarding the decree of measures that the Spanish government has approved and which must be validated by the Permanent Deputation of Congress. Costa has pointed out that it is "an extension of the previous ones". Pedro Sánchez's executive approved a package of aid at the end of March that involved 70 million for the Balearic Islands.
