Some cultural recommendations for next week

The week that begins, with Cati Moyà

I will celebrate that five years after the initially planned date—March 14, 2020, when we were put on lockdown—we can enjoy Jackie Oates' first live performance in Mallorca at Monti-sion, Porreres. The young British artist has been able to revitalize folk music thanks to an approach that is as respectful and conspiratorial as it is contemporary and energetic. Oates' concert will also mark the beginning of a farewell, that of the Women Don't Wait for Waits series. After ten years of programming more than twenty memorable performances, such as those of Lisa Germano, Kathryn Williams, and Scarlet Rivera, she will bid farewell in November, specifically on the 7th, with Courtney Marie Andrews at the Teatro de Alaró. Thursday, July 17, at 8:45 p.m.

I will be in Llucmajor, specifically at the Toni Catany International Photography Center, to hear photographers like Martí Llorens and Iñaki Bergera converse with architecture experts like Marta Serra. All of them will be taking part in the 3rd Architecture and Photography Conference, which will continue the following week with other offerings. Wednesday, July 16th and Thursday, July 17th, starting at 6:30 p.m.

I will arrive to the Coll Bardolet Foundation in Valldemossa to see the Monochromies exhibition. After its premiere in Madrid in March, Joan Punyet Miró is showing this series of paintings for the first time in Mallorca.

I will meet again With the infinite elegance, tenderness, and simplicity of Jay-Jay Johanson, who returns to Mallorca to present his latest work, Backstage, as part of the SonsDeNit festival. It will be at the Teatro Principal in Inca. Saturday, July 19, at 9 p.m.

I will wish I'm in Menorca to hear the interesting reflections of critic and journalist Jorge Carrión, author of two fundamental essays that define the axes of contemporaneity from almost opposite perspectives: Bookstores and Against Amazon. Carrión will be visiting the Hauser & Wirth Menorca gallery on King Island to offer an autofiction workshop and a lecture entitled Bookstores and Libraries, the Infinite Conversation, as part of the Albert Camus Meetings. Wednesday, July 16 and Thursday, July 17.

The week that begins, with JA Mendiola

Delay A tribute to the Valencian clarinetist Eduardo Bernabéu, who was a member of the Balearic Islands Symphony Orchestra and recently passed away. His colleagues, conducted by Pablo Mielgo, will perform Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Clarinet Concerto, K. 622, in his honor, undoubtedly the most famous concert in which Bernabéu's instrument served as soloist. Joan Enric Lluna will bring the composition to life. We will also be able to hear the Opening of The Marriage of Figaro, by Mozart himself, and Symphony No. 5 by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. It will be held at Bellver Castle and will be the final concert of this year's Estius Simfònics. Thursday, July 17, at 9:30 p.m.

I will recommend Go hear the unique pianist Clara Peya perform in the garden of Llorenç Villalonga House in Binissalem, as part of La Luna en Verso. She will present her latest work, titled Corsé, accompanied by two voices, drums, keyboards, and synthesizers. Saturday, July 19, at 9:30 p.m.

I'll see At the Canyamel Tower, the exhibition by my admired sculptor Joan Costa, entitled Mai Se Know, offers a spectacular display of his sensitivity. For example, with a white Carrara marble baobab tree over three meters tall. Inside, a blue forest with four hundred wild olive branches tinted with his signature blue, and much more. Until October 31st.

I will readNow and in the hour, by Héctor Abad Fanciolince, where he recounts his time in Ukraine, invited to an unforgettable book fair. A Russian missile struck the restaurant where the writers' farewell dinner was being held, leaving thirteen dead and more than sixty injured. An experience that, of course, left a lasting impression on him. Alfaguara Publishing.

I will go to the Pollençon cloister of Sant Domingo to see and hear the musical duo of LINA_ and Marco Mezquida, an explosive combination brought to us by the SonsDeNit program. On one hand, one of the most captivating voices in current fado, considered the heir to the legendary Amália Rodrigues. And she is accompanied by the Menorcan pianist, as versatile as he is, with a quality and skill that always turns any of his performances into a true spectacle. Together they fuse jazz and fado, making this original reinterpretation unquestionably original. Friday, July 18, at 9:00 p.m.
