PalmaThe Casal Solleric in Palma will host from this Thursday the collective exhibition "Vinyeta és una paraula femenina" (Vignette is a feminine word), an exhibition that reviews seven decades of Spanish comics through the work of half a hundred female authors of different generations.

The proposal, curated by Jaume Vaquer and included within the Còmic Nostrum Festival, starts from the landscape-oriented booklets published during the Franco regime and follows the evolution of the sector to the present day. The journey allows one to see how both the comic and the professional role of the women who worked in it changed.

The exhibition goes through the Bruguera stage and the weight that distribution agencies had, which facilitated many female authors being able to publish outside the State. It also addresses the arrival of women in political humor magazines and adult comic publications, where they began to treat issues related to the role of women in society with more freedom.

Another of the exhibition's axes is the subsequent influence of manga and the opening towards the markets of the United States and France. The journey reaches the consolidation of the graphic novel, a format that has favored a greater presence of creators and that has been accompanied by broader recognition, also with several National Awards.

The exhibition will be inaugurated this Thursday at 7 p.m. and aims to show that the female presence in comics is not a recent phenomenon, but a constant that has contributed to transforming the sector from the mid-20th century to today.
