PalmaFira B! has closed its eleventh edition with nearly 4,000 spectators and almost 300 performing arts professionals. Between September 30th and October 3rd, the showcase programmed more than 30 theater, dance, circus, and new language proposals at various venues in Palma.
The programming took place at the Teatre Principal, the Xesc Forteza municipal theater, the Teatre del Mar, Ca n’Oleo, Es Baluard, the Basilica of Sant Francesc, and Ses Voltes, featuring shows by companies from the Balearic Islands, other parts of the country, and internationally. Several performances sold out.
The professional dimension was one of the axes of the fair. 167 professionals from the Islands participated, along with 55 from other autonomous communities and representatives from Germany, Andorra, Chile, France, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.
During the professional sessions, 12 activities were held, including talks, meetings, and presentations, in addition to 86 speed meetings between artists, companies, programmers, and distributors. The goal of these meetings is to facilitate the circulation of shows and generate new collaborations.
Dance and international projection
Dance and new languages have had a prominent role in this edition, with proposals such as Kea, by DAB Dantza; Basandere, by NODE, and Public, by Fil d’Arena.
The fair has also strengthened exchanges with other territories. This year it has incorporated a focus dedicated to the Basque Country through the collaboration with the LABO XL festival in San Sebastián. In the international sphere, the French OUPS Dance Company and the German Silke Z. Resistdance have participated.
The programming began with L’arquitecte, by Produccions de Ferro, at the Teatre Principal and closed on Saturday with Retaule en dues parts, at Sant Francesc, and Act 3: LOVE, at les Voltes.
This edition has also incorporated accessibility measures, such as magnetic loop, sound amplification, and audio description. Retaule en dues parts offered, in addition, a performance adapted for blind people with live audio description and the accompaniment of two mediator actresses.
