The musicologist Bàrbara Duran collects in a book the half century of choral singing in Sant Joan

'Cantar al Pla de Mallorca' collects the history of the Sant Joan formation through documents, photographs and testimonies of five decades of music and community life

Saint JohnThe Coral de Sant Joan has seen the completion of its 50th anniversary program of events with the presentation of the commemorative book written by musicologist and researcher Bàrbara Duran Bordoy. Under the title of Cantar al Pla de Mallorca. 50 years of the Coral de Sant Joan, last Saturday and within the framework of the patron saint festivities, the parish church was filled with friends, singers, and neighbors.

Duran has made a meticulous compilation of the trajectory of the Sant Joan choir. The book is a tribute to five decades of uninterrupted activity of music, coexistence, and commitment to local culture.

Duran's work takes a detailed journey through the history of the group since its inception, documenting the different stages of the group, the conductors who have left their mark, and the most significant performances. Through careful documentary research and direct testimonies, the book collects historical photographs, anecdotes, and the shared memory of the generations of Sant Joan residents who have been part of the choir.

During the presentation, Duran was accompanied by Joana Estelrich, Climent Picornell and Joan Company. In the presentation, the fundamental role that the group has played as a cultural engine of the town was highlighted, in addition to the importance of leaving a written record of this intangible heritage.

Picornell, author of the prologue, makes it clear in his text: "This book by Bàrbara Duran does not only speak of a choir. It speaks of a town that, for decades, has known how to turn singing into a way of being together".

In addition to the entity's chronology, Duran speaks in the book in small interviews with what she calls "the Politxons", the directors who have passed through the Choir.

With this publication, the Coral de Sant Joan not only closes the golden anniversary celebrations, but also secures the musical legacy of the municipality for future generations.
